hey am buying a rode nt1 in a couple of weeks time for recording acoustic guitar and vocals, i was wondering if a should get a micpre aswell or will my mbox 2 be ok? dont no much about micpres

cool.............. could you recommend a good mic in the £200 area that would be good for acoustic guitar and vox?

DSS, have you only used the NT-1, or the NT-1A? Cuz the latter is apparently a big improvement over the former, and I've used it extensively to great effect in my school's studio (though I do agree it's quite bright)

That being said, though, +1 on AT4040

a have read alot of reviews on the net and forums and alot of people seem to like the rode nt1a and for £120 with a pop shield lead and stand thats got to be good. there are three am looking at beyerdynamic mce 90 akg c3000 rode nt1a and AT4040 but the rode seems to be the best price

I recorded my friends indie band last year, and they had an NT-1 and NT-1a. We ended up using the NT-1a on vocals, and I've always hated the sound of it, listening back. Gross top end that I couldn't tame in the mix without making it super dull sounding.

I did another 2 songs for them this summer, and my AT3035 that we used turned out a TON better. It could've been the singers voice... but even when we used the NT-1/1a combo as OH's, I preferred the cheapo PG81's I used the second time.

Hmm, well I've only ever used the NT1-A on vox, specifically for my band last semester, but it sounded great with our vocalist both screaming and singing into it. Forgive the sub-par production, I've learned quite a bit in the past half-year since then, but you can check it out at www.myspace.com/halcyonnight if you were curious
