Roky Erickson is a fantastic song-writer and has a great voice. Even if you don't know his name, chances are you've heard his song "You're Gunna Miss Me" released during his time with 13th Floor Elevators, a psychedelic rock band.

Roky was plagued by schizophrenia and unfortunate experiences while institutionalized. The Evil One (first released as Roky Erickson & The Aliens under the title I Think Of Demons - there is a couple different tracks, different track listing and cover art) is one of Roky's solo albums, released in 1981. This album sounds a straight ahead rock n' roll band with very repetitive vocal lines (closest I can think of is ZZ Top or maybe Thin Lizzy) with noticeably Pagan Altar-esque melodies in some the riffing and solos (especially in songs like Night Of The Vampire and Creature With The Atom Brain). It is not a perfect album (songs like I Walked With A Zombie and Mine Mine Mind jump out as mostly filler) but worth a couple spins!

The catchiest songs on the album:
