SANCTUARY - Exitium (Anthem Of The Living) (Lyric Video)

Eh, some agree, others don't. I have lots of respect for Warrel as a musician because his voice is stellar but also because of the vocal melodies he comes up with. The man can simply write melody. In fact, I may be the only one in Nevermore's entire fanbase to say this, but I actually don't like the falsetto range he uses. WD, in my opinion, is always at his best when his voice is on the deeper/lower end. It just sounds much more haunting and dark. But having said that, and back to the point, Nevermore was always about Jeff firstly. At least for me. Taking nothing away from WD or even Van (who is a fantastic drummer). But the kind of metal fan I am...I always go for the guitars first and then the vocals second. The great thing about Nevermore was the way that Jeff and WD played off of each other. It's like they were born to make music together.

You aren't the only one. But I started listening to Nevermore a few years prior to Sanctuary. I said in a more recent thread that I don't mind the falsettos, but they aren't when he sounds the best and just seem to be more of a technical display. I'm not against falsettos either, I just think his lower and upper mid ranges are where he's the best.

Couldn't agree more. Warrel's lower range is downright haunting. "Shall I slam the door?" Man, this must be the 50th time I've listened to this song and it keeps getting better.

I am listening to MOP for, oh I dunno, the 1 millionth time, as I type this. To say I am excited for the new Threshold is a massive understatement. I am a bit worried though (the pessimist in me) that it won't come close to MOP. If you look at the song list, most songs are in the 4-5 min range. MOP is epic because of the multitude of massive 6,7,8+ minute songs. The length allows for more growth and flow and structure in the songs. I am not sure what they can accomplish in 4 minutes. But, I am still waiting very patiently. I really hope it's good. MOP is one of the best, classiest metal records I've heard in my entire life, no exaggeration.

So I've listened to this song a lot in the past 5 days and it still just keeps getting better. This is the music I need in my life right now. I'm starting to come around on these lyric videos, too. I wasn't a fan at first, and I still prefer to hear new songs without reading along for the first few times. But, as a person who takes great interest in lyrics and a band's perspective, I actually prefer this to a normal music video. Great lyrics make a great band even better so maybe it will help people that otherwise wouldn't pay any attention to lyrics gain a further respect for the music and band.

Agreed on all points! I've found myself waking up each day with some of the melodies swirling in my head and I catch myself singing "we cry for sweet Lenore" all the time. I also like the lyric video idea because it puts the focus on the lyrics which are especially important to WD's approach to music and the emotion he wants to express.
