- Drums sound too sampled, especially the snare.
- The bass drum and toms are also too clicky for the rest of the mix.
- The bass could go up a bit and a bit of bass grit would help improving the mix as a whole too.
- Watch out for the kick/bass relationship: kick is way too clicky and could punch more in the lows whereas the bass doesn't seem to fill up all the spots it could. A good idea would be to reference albums with good subs and a great kick/bass relationship such as The Way Of All Flesh.
- You should also watch out for weird resonances (0:26, 0:34, 0:36, etc. : the toms seem to be a major culprit and fuck up the whole mix every time).
- Lead guitar playing is a bit weak and the tone a bit too piercing.
- The rhythm guitar tone, cymbals and synth all sound pretty good to me. Keep it up!
Thanks for the advice, I don't have monitors so that might be why I didn't here the weird resonances and subs. I am probably going to tame the eq on the lead guitar. What do you suggest for SSD snares?
