SAVATAGE reunion at Wacken 2015!

I've never seen Oliva and Stevens share the stage live though, and I'd really like to.

It's happened three times in Atlanta.

Oliva was a guest of the first Circle II Circle set.

Zak was a guest of the last JOP set.

Zak also performed a few acoustic numbers on Jon's Wed night one-man show as well. "All that I Bleed" was just amazing.

Been saying this for years that a Savatage reunion isn't much better than what we've gotten over the years.

Not to disparage JOP or CIIC, but how is seeing one actual member and a bunch of other musicians the same as seeing a performance with the band members that actually played on the albums? Also while Zak and Jon might have shared the stage, that is hardly the same as a fully designed set that features them both. Don't get me wrong I think Streets will be great this year, but it does not make me want to see a reunion of the band any less.

Pretty much how I feel about it as well. I've loved every incarnation I've managed to see since the musicians involved stopped performing under the Savatage name. I've not once since then heard any fans of the band say "nah, I could care less about a reunion" either. It's been what, the number one question that comes up every single time just about any of these guys mention a tour. I know I would love to see it if I could go.

Ditto on the Amorphis set though, fuck yeah. :headbang:

Here's where I will be blasted. I'm not the biggest fan of Stevens as a singer. I think he's a good quality singer, but he doesn't have that unique factor that Jon has. I would so much rather just here Jon than to have both.

Technically speaking I get where you're coming from. However, my perspective is that I'm honestly not so sure a reunited Savatage will do any better of a job. That's my point.

What hasn't really been clear to me is how extensive this "Savatage" set is.

Last time they were to do these Savatage reunion shows after TSO performances, they were slated to play only a handful of songs.

Considering Plate, Caffrey, Middleton, and Pitrelli would just have completed a full TSO performance, I honestly wouldn't expect more than a handful of (rain) tunes....

Furthermore, Zak has hinted at hitting the road late 2014 / early 2015 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Handful of Rain. My guess is that would not be part of Wacken since there is a "Savatage" billing. On the contrary, if Zak were to be present, it would obviously open the setlist capabilities

One of the coolest aspects of the Oliva Storytellers tour was the number of Zak fronted tunes he performed.

They could have TSO and Savatage on different days. There's certainly some ambiguity, but I think everyone involved would take a ton of flak if they announced they had a Savatage reunion and then it only ended up being 5 or 6 songs tacked onto the TSO set. My bet is that it will be two distinct sets, possibly on different days.

Naa I'm thinking Jon has had a lot of fun working on the upcoming PPXV Streets performance, and has decided he would like to revisit some other Savatage material now. I would wager this will be a separate performance apart from TSO.

On the announcement didn't they announce that right after, Savatage would be playing? I agree it being separate days would make more sense, but that's not what I got from the announcement. I also highly doubt Savatage would have a small set though. That would piss a TON of people off.

Caffrey's FB post confirms for me that Savatage will appear right after TSO:

SAVATAGE guitarist Chris Caffery wrote on his Facebook page: "Our friends at the Wacken festival announced that SAVATAGE will be finally playing again! Wacken 2015! Both SAVATAGE and the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA will make an appearance. SAVATAGE will close the festival that night following TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA's first-ever European festival appearance."

I don't know if I would bank on a full blown 90 minute set or anything.

People speculate when stated terms are not very clear.

"Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be performing live on stage at Wacken 2015, followed immediately by a Savatage reunion gig, that also marks their first live performance in over a decade. Furthermore, these will be the only live appearances of both bands in Europe in 2015!"

I see people discussing whether or not this will be the same night, the night after, etc. If that doesn't seem clear, then I don't know what the hell clear means. :)

How would they not get a full set if they're the ones closing the fest that night?

Oh yeah, that aspect for sure...
I thought you were referring to the discussion on the set length. That still seems unclear to me.

Hrmmmmmm..........

Sorry, I think we all have been following Savatage / TSO / Paul O'Neill long enough to be skeptical that there would be a FULL Savatage show headlining OVER TSO.

All it says is a Savatage "gig" closing out the show.

I tend to think that this is NOT a full 90 minute type of performance.

Otherwise I think it would have been worded as "Full headlining set" or "full 90 minute performance" All we know is a "gig" following TSO.

Sorry AngraRULES!!!!! :loco:
