Savatage

Yep I agree, Savatage is great. I like their stuff they did with Transiberian Orhcestra. They have 2 Christmas albums and 1 other regular album with them. :)

Great band. I have Poets and Madmen, Dead Winter Dead and The Wake Of Magellan (they all rock...I'm still getting used to the last one).

I like Poets and Madmen the best (my screen name is from an awesome song on that album).

They have two singers (one is really opera-like, the other sounds like a little murderous troll). Al Pitrelli is also a part of Savatage, and he is one of my favorite guitarists.

That (other) singer is Jon Oliva. He hurt his voice in the early 90's. He also is the main writer along with Paul Oneill. His brother Criss who co founded the band with Jon, was killed by a drunk driver in 1993. They are a band from the 80's, where they managed to rise above all the hairpuke bands that started to dominate. Check out their to classics 'Hall of the mountain king and 'Gutter ballet

I used to like them a lot, now I seldomly listen to them. Edge of Thorns especially hasn't been getting any spins.

An ex of mine was totally into them, she kept playing me dead winter dead, but somehow I just couldn't get into it at all...she turned me on to Psychotic Waltz though, and in-directly to DT. I do remember seeing a clip of a song off 'streets' on MTV and thought that was pretty cool tho (think it was 'gutter ballet') Probably if I took the time (no pun intended!) I could get into Savatage.

savatage is a great band they have a lot of good cd's.they are just under bands like symphony x and dream theater in my opinion.there best singer left though and started the new band circle 2 circle

EDGE OF THORNS

probably my favorite cd. savatage are kickass..
i like this cd because it is straight up rock/metal...a lot of good metal tunes, but there is great singing..the more melodic singer, and criss oliva on the guitar.

i don't like their recent stuff as much as their mid-era stuff...zakk stevens and criss oliva.

anyway, "from the gutter to the stage" haaas songs from different times if you want to see...but nothing very recent

their first few cd's are good, raw power metal, a lot like crimson glory...

and lately there is a lot of counterpart and vocal harmonies, orchestration going on in their music
