Savatage

NOOOOOO!!! get something you know is good, like technical/prog like Spiral Architect, Zero Hour, Power of Omens, Andromeda or some melodic prog or power like Evergrey, Magnitude 9, Pain of Salvation or Devin Townsend, Angra and Adagio.
I'm sure you havent got all of these artists, so get any of these as they're heaps better (not just IMO) than Savantage.

Sorry Shreddi  still gonna get a Savatage CD...but if it makes you feel better, I got Spiral Architect(they totally blew my head off, but in a good way), Evergrey(pretty cool), and Angra(also pretty cool). I hear you talk a lot about Zero Hour, so I will add that to by CD list too. I'll write down your other suggestions too. I always need new things to listen to.

this is Zero Hour for you:
BOOM BOOOMBOOM taka ta ta tak tak kaka BOOM BOOMBOOM BOMM tak meedley MEEE!! BOOM.

the metal chick- i don't know dead winter dead to tell you the truth. but i recommend you get one of their older cd's...why? cause it is straight up old school metal! you can't go wrong with that...you have a way better chance of being happy to own that cd even if you end up not liking savatage. the new stuff is so based on vocal harmonies and rounds, as well as orchestration..the older is just riffs and good hooks! METAL not opera.

somebody told me to listen to gordian knot
but i would rather spend loot travelling for a while and then see what i'm left with for music

I first heard of Savatage back when they made "Hall of the Mountain King". They had some cool tunes on that album but the singing was always the drawback. Jon Oliva doesn't have a great voice, although he definitely wasn't shy about using it. It is unique though. Of course, he isn't the primary singer on the later albums. The only current album I have is "The Wake of Magellan" and I actually really like it. I didn't care for much of it the first few times I heard it, but the more I listened to it the more I appreciated the songs.

The strange thing about Savatage is they always left me with a feeling they were just a tiny step below good song writers and musicians, although "The Wake of Magellan" and some of the work they have done with Trans-Siberian Orchestra has changed my mind about that recently. Anyway, "The Wake of Magellan" is a good album and if you like SyX you'll probably like it.

Just my 2 cents.
