dear maxon 808 users;

i foolishly lent my 808 out to a friend for recording, they plugged in a completly wrong power supply and broke it :mad:

However; on opening the pedal we discovered that this is most likely due to a fried component; so fried that i cant tell what it is to replace it!!

i couldnt find a proper schematic; but heres a photo. looks like some sort of resistor;

Its the component labelled d5 on the board (photo attached) if anyone could have a look and tell me what it is (in general and the value!) and whether or not i need a specific make or type to preserve the tone; thatd be hugely appreciated!!
thanks guys

Then it is a diode (the D-labelling). If it was a resistor it would be labeled R#... anyway i dont know the spec on the diode - but can you se a number or declaration on it?

Michael

It's a diode, that for sure. What markings are on it? They will usually be able to tell you what value it is.

Edit - Had a look at the schematic I have lying around and there is no listed value for D5, in my bill of materials it is listed as an additional part....

Due to its location I would say that it is the one used for the power curcuit (but i am not sure). Anyway if it is the diode for the power circuit, you could propably use a 1N4001 - without any difference in the sound.

Again im not sure... but it is my best guess.

as i understood him - this diod fried too much and he cant see the number, or anthing else on it...

i think that 808 owners must see what is written there...

precisely!!
could anyone with an MAXON 808 open it up and have a look for me?

thanks for your replies so far guys!!
certaintly narrowed down the search!

A diode just makes sure that your incoming current only flows in one direction.
Generally speaking if you get a diode rated to handle the voltage coming in and make sure you orient the silver stripe in the same position you will be fine.

should cost you about 50 cents to fix it

just about managed to make it out after unsoldering it!
1n4002 for future reference
!!

It's a diode and it should have protected the other parts from being destroyed (that the only job of the diode afaik)!

But why the hell did they use an AC/DC Adapter for recording? Batterys got the real sound (or at least less hum!)
