Saw Meshuggah yesterday...WOW

I think they are going to do a headline in the US...... i hope so, I'd be there......I saw Meshuggah at Ozzfest (one of the very few good bands there) but I didn't know any of their material.... now that I know their songs, I want to see them BADLY......

For my tastes...I don't like them. I saw them in concert with Tool and nobody except for a few people were into the music. To me everything sounded the same. They had a few good songs where the riff was kinda catchy in their own distinct way, but other than that I didn't think much of them.

Damn, Meshuggah never stop touring!... fuck, i missed Tool twice when they were touring with Meshuggah. But, I remeber all the bastard Tool fans writing reviews on the semi-official site saying that Meshuggah was all noise, and that they suck live, and that they are a bad choice for an opener. Ugh, idiots most of them. I'm sure Meshuggah will come back though.

You have to understand that more than half of tool's fan base are idiotic nu-metal kids who think tool are gods ... well I mean they are a fucking awesome band .. really talented musicians but not gods . Many of the bands that opens for tool gets a bad response from the audience .. it's become "cool" to boo other bands of the stage (or try) that open up for Tool ...

Yeah I totally agree with everything you say there. I used to think extremely highly of Tool back in the day, they were a different band that made it big. I still like them a lot today, and think 'Lateralus' is the coolest fucking cd in the past few years, but yes their popularity have brought on many close-minded little bastards. And for sometime, I actually took on the advice of the Tool fans based on the reviews of the openers, so I still have to check out Tomahawk and Fantomas, since supposedly they suck as well haha.

That goes for every single band.

Hmm... yeah that is true often, but I think its a rather known issue with Tool fans. I've read this complaint in many places all over the web.

I saw Meshuggah open for Tool last November in Laredo Texas, and believe me, EVERYONE was into them. It was probably the starvation for any metal band to hit the city (middle of nowhere), but Meshuggah got the crowd REALLY pumped up. In fact, the lead singer was constantly telling us "we fucking rule" and how they didn't know Laredo was a Metal town. They also played Cyanide Christ "especially for us".
To tell you the truth, the crowd seemed indifferent or perplexed during Tool's set at times, but everyone went crazy during Messhuggah. And Maynard came out of the backstage in boxer shorts and no shirt, drinking a beer, and he played a little guitar with Meshuggah. I shit you not. It was fucking killer.
And I disagree about tool's fan base being idiotic nu-metal kids, in fact I think most of the REAL fans are quite mellow and open minded. All bands have the shitty drunkard fans who are just there for the tits.

I saw them at Ozzfest a while back in Atlanta. Maybe it was just the atmosphere (piss-ant kids in papa roach shirts, 103 degree heat, complete lack of water, late in the day), but I didn't enjoy the set at all.

I usually like this kinda music too. I dunno, just seemed like noise. The overall mix was grating, and ear-fatiguing. The guitar tones were horrible, and all I could hear was the damn kick drum. 8 String guitars? Gimmie a break. What a gimmick. They might as well have 3 bass players up there. They're rhythmically a tight band, but anyone can do Hemiola in sync with others so long as you can tune the other members of the band out. It's not that hard.

I dunno, I just didn't see what the big deal was.

from my experience I can say that the riffs get catchy after repeated listens. and when they do you won't forget them, they're very characteristic. they're my favourite "aggro" band

To me they are the 'heaviest' band... but my definition of heavy differs from most other people. I don't find constant blast beats and screaming about raping people with knives heavy in that awesome adrenaline sense, I just find it to be noise...

The first time I listened to the start of The Exquisite Machinery Of Torture I nearly shat my pants... its so simple yet so brutal in this strange way.

I can understand how some can hate Meshuggah.. it's definately not music for everyone, but I fucking LOVE it.

I found with Meshuggah I didn't go nuts with it until I understood what they were doing. At first it sounded like a pretty good metal band, with something odd I couldn't put my finger on.. then when I found out what they were actually doing, they seemed like automatically better musicins than what I thought, and I knew what I was looking for when lsitening.

Yeah. Fantomas was practically booed off the stage both times I saw them open for Tool... completely misunderstood band and incorrectly booked to open for Tool, in my opinion. They were pelted with objects at one point. Bunch of freakin' idiot kindergoth ignorant bastard %$#& tool fans... I left after Fantomas played the second time I went. Walked past the $50 t-shirts and just laughed and laughed...

I enjoy Tool's music, but a lot of their fans are, themselves, Tools.

Meshuggah... to me, their songs are interesting, particularly due to the rhythm section, but they lack a certain beauty and melody. I can only take so much before I have to switch to something else. I'd rather listen to Vehemence or something that's brutal and beautiful at the same time.
