Finally! From www.saxon747.com :

"SAXON is confirmed for the Rock Gone Wild Festival in Algona, Iowa which takes place on 20. - 23. August 2009.

Info: www.rockgonewild.com"

Hopefully they'll do something else besides this while they're here.....like headline Thursday night at PPUSA?

It would be nice to see the Saxon/Iced Earth tour that's happening over in Europe here in the U.S.

Not enough metal fans with good taste to make that a viable package in the States.

I mean, that package in the States wouldn't really draw all that much more than would show up to see IE anyhow.

Last time Saxon toured, they played nightly to crowds in the TENS. (And yes, I am being literal).

Look, I like Saxon too. Though, they are not a draw in the States.
I think their older fans are the ones who would go see them for $5 at a Fourth of July festival, but not pay $30 to $40 to see them at House of Blues.

Disagree all you want.
Saxon has tried multiple times in the past couple of years to come here, but it never pans out.

Maybe the promoter is paying them a ridiculous amount of money to come over for this fest, so it could happen, I suppose.

Figures....I get all excited and you guys have to poop on my parade....

I totally agree with all of your points. They've had visa issues for years trying to get over here. And, like you say, if they're not doing any other dates then they will probably cancel.

And...I will not go to that fest as there isn't enough to interest me for that kind of $$$.

My old band used to end our sets with "Power and The Glory" at the Thirsty Whale, so I have an interest in finally seeing them sometime...

You act as if SAXON won't cancel their appearance.

Actually, I looked at this fest and as the line-up stands (only half complete .. or less) I wouldn't pay the money to go to it. I know I'm judging the line-up before it's complete, but thus far it is not looking that promising for my tastes.

Saxon was the only band on the bill thus far that I really cared about and as much as I want to see them I'm not going to something this large just for them. The only other band that I remotely like was Skid Row, but they pretty much went country sometime after they got Johnny Solinger and I haven't really liked them since. There might be a few other bands on the bill that I would enjoy that I'm not as familiar with, but I'm not really that interested in expanding my catalog of "radio rock" and "come-back glam rock."
Hopefully they'll do something else besides this while they're here.....like headline Thursday night at PPUSA?
I would love to see Saxon at PP, but since they'd probably cancel that too, maybe I should just save myself the disappointment.

I would love to see Saxon as well, but as mentioned, they continually cancel, they have no draw here despite being huge across the pond. They'd have to get on a bill as an opener for a bigger "name" band but I don't see it happening. The fest in Iowa sucks, but I'd be tempted to travel to see Saxon. I think the only way they make it to the fest is if they are on a small tour on surrounding dates, I'll catch 'em then, ...maybe...hopefully.....who knows?!
