Swedish melodic death metallers SCAR SYMMETRY have issued the following update:

"When things went from bad to worse and we realized that it wasn't going to work out with Christian [Älvestam, former SCAR SYMMETRY vocalist], we were faced with two options; either calling it quits, or seizing the opportunity to take the next logical step in the evolution of our sound. We chose the latter.

"We've used both growls and clean vocals in our music since day one, and with each album we've pushed the envelope of what you can do vocally in a metal band to the point where a lot of the songs on 'Holographic Universe' [SCAR SYMMETRY's latest album] would be hard if not impossible to sing live. So the question is: Is it really possible to push the vocals even further and manage to perform everything live?

"The answer is YES! Instead of hiring a new singer, we decided — some of you might already have figured it out by now — to recruit TWO singers! The idea of having two vocalists in the band is something that's been in the back of our minds for a long time, and after auditioning and rehearsing with two of Sweden's best vocalists we're thrilled, excited, stoked-beyond-belief!!!

"So let us introduce you to...

"Roberth Karlsson - lead growl vocals and backing clean vocals:

"Roberth was our first choice for the growling position. Jonas once called him 'Sweden's finest growler,' which is no overstatement. Roberth has been involved in many band throughout the years, among others EDGE OF SANITY and FACEBREAKER.

"Lars Palmqvist - lead clean vocals and backing growl vocals:

"Roberth introduced us to his longtime friend Lars, who blew us away with his powerful-yet-beautiful voice. You can imagine our excitement when we learned that he's a fantastic growler as well! Despite his amazing talents he's virtually unknown to the metal public, which just might change as of today!

"We are very fortunate to have found these guys. They bring to the band not only their incredible skills but also a positive vibe we haven't had for some time.

"We've posted a videoclip [see below] from when we auditioned Roberth and Lars, as a little teaser... Yes it might come across as we were drunk the entire time, which probably is very close to the truth. Enjoy!"

"Morphogenesis", the new video from SCAR SYMMETRY, can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's latest album, "Holographic Universe", which registered the following first-week chart positions in Europe:

Finland: #37
UK: #39 (Indie chart)
Austria: #65
Germany: #68

In the U.S., the CD debuted at No. 33 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

An e-card for the CD is available at this location.

Awesome news!

Would Roberth be the one who did vocals on Crimson 1 and 2? If so.... damnnnn, awesome!

EDIT: After watching the vid, I'm not sold on Lars. He seems to have a bit of that power metal vibrato thing happening. The reason I loved Scar Symmetry's cleans was because one could get away from that whole over-dramatized thing. Growls seem cool though.

Dunno.
The growls are cool, but yeah, the power metalness of the clean vox I'm not digging

Yeah Roberth only sund on "Cryptic", the only EOS album without Dan Swanö.
Crimson I was Dan, and Crimson II was Dan and Rogga from Ripspreader/Paganizer

OMG he hits the high clean notes so easily

EDIT: Bouhouhouhouhou why all the best metal vocalists are all gathered in Sweden :(
I need one in Belgium NOW aaaahhhhhhhh

Hmm. Not completely sold on them yet, especially Lars. While I think he'd be great in other types of metal, I'm not sure how much he suits this band. But, I guess I'll give it time and give it a chance.

I think it's almost impossible to judge these guys based on this video, for a variety of reasons that should be obvious. That being said, my overall impression of both vocalists (and their intoxicating enthusiasm) is positive, and I think it's just about the only way this band could have continued.

Its really hard to pass judgment based on a teaser, but I have high hopes for these two new guys. Christian is a tough act to follow, and even combined who knows if these guys can truly represent his range and power. Best of luck to them and hopefully I will get to see them on tour in the not-so-distant future.

The growls sound spot on.. but yeah I REALLY hope the cleans will sound less power metal when we get to hear them properly. It's gonna be interesting when they bring out more material as I have a feeling they're going to sound like a very different band..

ROFL. i bet christian is laughing. yeah. it takes 2 singers to pull off my shit, this bands vocals are about to go to shit.

I figured they'd go for the 2 vocalist route. When I first heard SS I couldn't believe that all those vocals were done by one guy... absolutely amazing. Eventhough There was living proof that one guy could do those vocal styles, I still figured it was an impossible task. SS have proved that by going dual vox.

Well, whatever it takes to get the job done. More power to them.
