i recently watched nosferatu and i'm probably going to watch donnie darko tonight (is it scary? that bunny dude looks pretty freaky).

lined up in my netshitz queueueueu are rosemarys' baby, the changeling, dracula, and the exorcist restored version. oh and a type o negative dvd because they are awesome in october. :dopey:

gimme mo' suggeshunz.

donnie darko: saw it on valentine's day three years ago with my girlfriend (who i bought it for) and didn't like it much. not scary, not very interesting, kinda boring! i don't even remember if there were tits, but i don't think so, and if there were, they weren't of movie-saving quality!

I'm glad somebody else didn't like it! All I ever see is praise for that fucking movie. It's shit and you're shit if you like it.

Donnie Darko is not a horror flick by any means ... more like some sci-fi one, with alternate universes and all ... pretty damn confusing really and lots of layers ... I guess this is why it's so praised.

slight derrailment: that new show INVASION on ABC on Wednesday nights is pretty damn good ...

I think DD is a solid movie. Certainly original. However, I don't see it as the MOVIE MESSAH that many view it as. Just an all 'round entertaining and thought provoking two hours.

you know what movie is awesome and has some creepy-ish animation/thematic elements/etc?

Hayao Miyazaki's "Princess Mononoke"

damn good shit! the japanese are fucking weird :zombie:

general comment... mostly 'cause they're so different (and from an outsider's point of view, so much more awesome) than us!

i'm sure they have their share of uninspired artists also, but I'm coming to worship Miyazaki SO DAMN MUCH! only seen Spirited Away, Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky, but they were all awesome in their way.

the japanese horror schtick is wearing thin now. or maybe i've just seen the wrong ones, or the wrong american remakes.

The Grudge was, in a word, shit.

i'm not talkin' horror here, i'm talkin incredible fantasy set in amazingly detailed/unique/cool worlds full of such amazingly memorable and awesome characters built around moving, powerful, epic-as-hell stories, with animation that i won't even begin to describe. damn, Miyazaki is SO goddamn the man!

As far as spooky films go, I haven't been able to get over Mothman Prophecies. Not so much 'scary' in a jump-out-of-your-seat type way, but haunting in a thought provoking way.

I also agree fully with what J. says about Donnie Darko.

uh dude you have apparently not seen AKIRA :zombie: :zombie: :zombie: :guh:

i also agree with J.'s assessment of donnie d

Watch Mullholland Drive or Eraserhead if you're looking for some alternative type "horror."
Also agree with J., that's 3 in a row, some kind of record?

I don't know why Princes Mononoke would make you say the Japs are weird. Watch Magical Shopping Arcade Akenobashi, then you can call them weird.

watch Visitor Q... THEN you can call them weird :Spin:
