I dig almost every Tue Madsen productions. This guy has always this typically scooped guitars even when he mixes guitar tracks already recorded (I mean without reamping himself) so I guess it's mainly about EQ and comp.

I tried to reach this characteristic as an exercise with different amp/cab/mic/pres. To me, it sounds like he tends to scoop around 400Hz and/or 750Hz and boost sometimes a lot around 1.7-2.2kHz.

Also, toms have always been a fight for me. Once again, Madsen has these attacks I really like. To me its around 2kHz and low end at 100-130Hz but difficult to define for me.

I know there are thread about the man but didn't find infos such as these ones precisely. I'm sure there are many guys here that have much better ears than me ahah so any infos/opinions would be appreciated!

Oh and my references atm are Dark Tranquillity 'Fiction', Heaven Shall Burn 'Invictus' and Born From Pain 'Survival'.

Only thing I know is that he likes to compress the drums to death on the drumbus, and not so much the individual drums, snare, toms etc... only lightly... check out the interviews on youtube about him!

Yeah, I nosed here and there but I did not get specific EQ tips. And as my ears are pretty fucked up right now, I wanted some external feedback from experienced people to help me to find the right frequency ranges.

Thanks for the reply tho ;)

Hey thanks :kickass:

EDIT - Mickaël, have you listened to these albums? If so, maybe you could give your opinion?

Sorry, I haven't...
But from my understanding, you really hear drum bus compression with Tue; so that give you the attack part for the tom...

The toms at the begining are fuckin' awesome. Anyway I don't know if we can call his guitars scooped...He usually use a lot of mids on his amps....like 5-7 on a 5150 but it depends also on the cab he uses

The bass on "Passenger" is def one of my fave one!

Sounds good :)

I agree he has a lot of mids but at the same time I hear like some mid frequencies are cut drastically (cf. Dark Tranquillity 'Fiction'). That said, every tests I have done sound completely like shit and I don't hear nothing anymore ahah!

Well, I think I'm gonna write to the man hoping to get some info. If so, I'll put these here.
