Okay so I went to this show last night.Stephen Pearcy sucked.I know he just had hernia surgery and he said something about not blowing out his stitches, but his voice shouldn't have been affected.Maybe it was just a bad night but I expected more from him than that.
The Scorpions on the other hand was one of the best live shows I've ever seen. This was my 1st time to see them live and I was blown away.Klaus still sounds like he did in the 80's on the cds.I think he is 62 maybe. What a voice!!!!!
He dedicated "Send Me An Angel" to Ronnie James Dio.The turnout was pitiful IMO.But it doesn't really surprise me I guess seeing as it's 80's bands.
Anyway, did anybody else go? If so,what were your opinions?

What type of venue was it? I know the show here in Chicago at the Rosemont Theater has been sold out for at least a month now, and the show isn't until mid-August.

It was the Bridgestone Arena. That's where the Nashville Predators play hockey. It can seat I think around 20,000.They closed half of it for the concert and there was still a TON of empty seats.I was very embarrased for the bands.

This is really sad, especially as it is the Scorpions last tour, you would think all the old fans would want to turn out for it. I just checked the Atlanta show and there are still a lot of good seats available so I'm guessing it's going to be the same deal here. Shame...

If the hernia was anywhere near his abdomen, it would absolutely 100% affect his voice...

That's true.I didn't think about that.Maybe that was it.The bass player sung all the high parts in each song.Warren tore it up on guitar and Bobby was great on drums.I was just very dissapointed in Stephen's effort. But I hope your guess it correct. That would make me feel a whole lot better about what I heard from him.

The old fans were the main ones there. There were some dads that brought their sons, which I thought was cool.I'm debating on taking off work Thursday and going to the Wednesday show in Atlanta.I don't care if it's the same set that I just heard. That's how good the Scorpions were to me!!!!!!

Cool, let me know if you decide to go and I'll try to say hello!

Hmm..... I'll have to look at ticket prices.... I've heard Pearcy has sucked for a long time, so not sure the surgery was a huge deal. I would really like to see the Scorpions though, and could make the drive to Atlanta.

To be fair, Stephen Pearcy has always been a terrible singer. I recall reading a review on Invasion of Your Privacy that said about Pearcy, "His vocal skills leave him better qualified for a career in plumbing." When I saw them when they just got back together, I thought they were excellent. When I saw them six months ago, I thought they were awful. I believe we left early.

I've never seen the appeal of the Scorps as a live band. I saw them back in the 80s and thought they were as dull as could be. I also recall them opening for Motley Crue about ten years ago. It had been a while since I had gone to see an 80s band perform live, so I had no clue what to expect. The crowd remained calmly seated throughout the entire Scorpions performance, and applauded politely after each song. I kept thinking to myself, this can't be how it's going to be for Motley Crue? When Crue took the stage, people we're not just standing on their chairs, but on the arms of their chairs... for the entire show. That experience kind of sealed the Scorps standing as a live band in my mind.

You used the right word Zod - Pearcy has ALWAYS been a horrible singer, but the studio made him sound fantastic. I saw Ratt a few times in the 80's and even saw his after-Ratt project Arcade and he always sounded as screechy as a lobster being dipped in boiling water.

I'll stick to cranking out the cd's instead of seeing them live.....

yep, seen Pearcy several times live in the 80's and he never sounded that great and NOTHING like on albums. LOL

There was nobody that I saw sitting in the seats during any of the Scorpions songs. The fans that did show blew the roof off the place cheering after every song. Both guitar players, bass player, and Klas were constantly running around the stage like a chicken with it's head cut off.Maybe they didn't do that back when you saw them. They were as far from dull as you can get IMO.

As far as the crowd getting juiced up for Crue...I went to see Megadeth and Motley Crue in Birmingham. The fans just basically sat through Megadeth's performance which BLEW away Crue's performance IMO.But an atom bomb went off after every Crue song was played from the crowd cheering.Does that make Megadeth's performance dull or is it because of who they toured with? I saw nothing dull about Dave Mustaine's performance or the rest of the band. But I guess dull could be considered to be a preference rather than a right or wrong answer.

I'm guessing they probably scaled back the second tour because of this. It could also be though that a lot of people don't know about the tour either. I know for the Chicago show, I continued to keep searching every couple of days for it to appear on their/ticketmaster's site. I don't think this tour is as heavily promoted as we think it is. I would also think they lost a lot of fans in the 90s, where they, honestly, were not very good. There probably are some people that have no clue about their most recent albums, which are awesome in my opinion.

It also might have been a better idea, though possibly trouble logistically if the opener was MSG for all the shows, like it will be in Chicago. Hey, at least they aren't playing clubs.

I'm a Scorpions fan but skipped that tour. The main thing was that I was away on vacation when they played in my city on June 26. But I don't think I'd have gone anyway. The tickets were more than $80 and I thought it was a bit too much for a band I already saw in 2005, and also in 2003.
Here, it was Cinderella who opened, a band I never cared about. If it had been Ratt, it would have been a plus for me to decide to go.

Scorps live are always great. Klaus Meine is a phenomenon to still sing so well in his 60s.

The Quebec City concert drew around 4000 fans, in a venue that can hold around 5000, so that was not too bad.

Their last arena show here in 2003 (with Whitesnake and Dokken) drew around 8000.

They played at the Quebec International Summer Festival in 2005 (outdoor venue), with Twisted Sister opening, and we were 80,000 fans, approximately the same turnaround that Iron Maiden/Dream Theater had on July 9th, 3 days ago. But these festivals always draw people that would not come at a "regular" show...

I've seen Megadeth twice, and although they were tight, I thought they had very little stage presence.

But an atom bomb went off after every Crue song was played from the crowd cheering.
That's pretty typical.

It's definitely a matter of opinion. Crue is all about anthems/crowd pleasers.

Megadeth's music isn't built to be played while jumping around like a maniac. That said, I've always found them to be a bit too tame live. Dave barely acknowledges the audience is there. Last time I saw them, he didn't speak tot he crowd until about the 5th or 6th song. The fact that Megadeth is a solo project, and not a proper band, probably doesn't help. With Crue, everyone knows all four band member's names. With Megadeth it's Dave and whatever three guys he hired for this tour.

Well,if you are speaking of fan interaction, then the Scorpions are all that and a box of crackers IMO:lol:
I was blown away by the crowd involvement Saturday night.Maybe they changed and decided to get that way because they heard some opinions like yours. But you do bring up some valid points on Megadeth. That particular concert I thought Dave spoke pretty well to the crowd.I just think most people there were only there for Crue.
