All the dark/gloomy/hateful/satanic stuff gets me bummed out. What are some good death metal and black metal bands that put out thought provoking lyrics that aren't caught up with fetish shit.
You'll probably find that more in thrash or grindcore. I really can't think of any black or death bands that can't be described as dark. It's kind of like saying "What are some death metal bands that arn't death metal".
Wolves in the Throne room is a good example of a band. Amon Amarth as well. I also like Bal-Sagoth. Old In Flames.
I don't mind dark. Anything based of of H.P. Lovecraft is dark...and probably not in the way Diacide is dark. I know there's plenty of Secular bands out there that rip and are thought provoking.
