Selling out to get signed. Your thoughts?

You ever thought about making your music just a little more... Culturally accepted in the mainstream for the sake of getting singed?

I remember before I could even pick up an instrument thinking I'd start a discard band and try to push it hoping if it ever got anywhere I'd have the rep, money, and connections to pursue a style maybe not so "popular". I know a few bands that have actually done this and some bands that didn't but halfway through getting signed decided they wanted to do something different and joined another band or started a side project. What are your thoughts on this?

I respect it as long as it is an assumed choice, and it is within moral limits. I think it would be more enjoyable having 5000 fans listening to my music regularly, than 50 including my friends and family

Well a good song is a good song weather it is Opeth or Spice Girls, you can still lean towards more mainstream without being a sellout. But yeah there is still some awful attempts to go mainstream as Dead,Jim said.

but seriously as awful as their new stuff is they are selling more records than ever before. it is the whole nickelback-middle america "badass but safe" thing that successful rock bands tap into. sometimes it sounds really forced, but sometimes it is a natural, horrific evolution.
