On my desk I have a DVD-R (not +) containing the first episode of new Doctor
Who and several episodes of You Can't Do That On Television, but it won't read in either my DVD player (no surprises there) or my ROM drive. It just gives me a "no disc in drive D" error message and spits the thing out again. Any theories?

W

The computer drive can, supposedly. It says DVD-R/RW on it, so it bloody well should be able to! I'll take it to work tomorrow and cross my fingers that watching Doctor Who on company time is a sackable offence :).

W

Oh. In that case maybe the session on the disc isn't finalised (i.e. closed so it can be accessed. Or something. I'm not really sure how DVD writers work, but if they're anything like a cd write it should use sessions.

Open up your DVD burning software and see if you can import an existing session off the DVD, and if you can, close it.

Is it the one that going to be shown on TV? Because I really want to download it, but I kinda don't want to download it. Which is sort of an odd feeling for me....

I hear it's like a full episode too, even though it's only 45 minutes long (as in, it wraps everything up), and it also might have been leaked on purpose...

Yeah it wraps up.

Its more a - a) this is the doctor b) this is his companion.

And then I guess it will start being more serial like after that.

I also read something about it being leaked on purpose...the BBC is gonna start letting all of their shows be downloaded, so it might be for some publicity. I cant wait for it to start properly.

I just spent 45 minutes of my alleged work day watching the episode on a computer that plays my bootleg DVD perfectly. WTF?

Anyway, it's fookin' marvellous. Just what we've all been hoping and waiting for since the original series ended 15 years ago :headbang:

Phlog: Assuming I can make copies, would you like one?

Spiff: Of course YCDTOTV rocks. It's Canadian :).

W

Wrath, thanks for the offer, but nah. I'll be able to download it faster than you could post it. I love my cable :)

Having said that though, and being reminded by your "Now playing" field, what's the theme like? Has it be spruced up for the new millenium? I heard they were going to retain the "original" one, but I have my doubts...

It's more or less the same as the classic 70s theme but it sounds a lot punchier. I'll be able to wibble on at great length about the differences between the two versions once I can blast it through my stereo speakers instead of these tinny little computer ones. The new opening credits rock the house though.

Is this a continuation from or similar to the 1996 telemovie where The Doctor ended up in San Francisco? I quite liked that - you could tell they had an actual budget for this one! :p

First ep is set in London, so I dunno about that Timbo.

But I shall agree again...it fooking rules!

The music sounded basically the same to me. At the start when there's the big tunnel of groovy colours there's a little 3D tardis flying around inside it hehe...I dont ever rememeber that from the old shows.

The tardis is exactly the same on the outside, but I remember the inside being different...I remember it being all white and sterile looking...the new interior looks quite organic and cool. It still makes the same awesome noise :headbang:

AHHHHNNNG...AAAHHNNNGG...AAHHHHNNNGG....AHHHHNNNGGG....
