So I brought one guitar in to get set up for drop d ($30) now I brought in another guitar to get set up for Drop C ($70) They more than doubled in two months time!!
How much are you guys paying?
Can I learn to do this myself, still a noobie with tunings and set up and action?
What are the best ways to learn this?

Prices are in AUD, where at the moment, $1 AUD is worth $0.71 USD. Depending on how much work needs done to the guitar, I pay $50 to $120 a time for a fixed-bridge setup. That includes new strings, action-setting, intonation and truss rod adjustment if needed and a fret polish. The work is always first-class.

It's really simple man, as far as keeping it generally playable - there's only two ways to adjust the action, with the truss rod and the bridge height. The truss rod affects everything from frets 6-7 down, but anything higher is the bridge height. So if it's buzzing on an open string or any fret up to 7, then the truss rod needs to be loosened. Stick with 1/4 turn, a little goes a long way. An easy way to gauge if you've got it right is to fret the first fret with your left hand, and also fret the fret over the place where the neck meets the body, and then look to see how much of a gap there is between the string and the 6th-7th fret (it should be about 1 mm). And then, once that's set, you can adjust the bridge height until there's no buzzing on frets above 6-7, and voila!
