REVIEW

SHADOWS FALL are a traditional metal band from Massachusetts. Their big break came in 2003 when they were asked to perform at Ozzfest. Since then they have performed at the 4th annual Take Action Tour in 2003 and the first annual MTV2 Headbangers Ball Tour.

The band are tight and like to show off their musical prowess which is done nicely in their epic tracks “Ghosts of Past Failures” and “Stilness.” There are elements of power metal which seamlessly blend in with traditional and thrash elements. The songs themselves have a great vibe which make it easy for the listener to slip into the groove.

I much prefer Shadows Fall to Killswitch Engage, who do absolutely nothing for me. I also like SF's more recent stuff than their first couple albums. I like the whole Bay Area thing they incorporated into Art of Balance, the new one has some good moments but is kind of bland. Caliban--now there's a poor man's KsE.

Fair enough.

I'm a huge fan of "Alive or Just Breathing" by KSE. When I first heard the "The Art of Balance", I heard a lot of similarities. Given that their both from Massachusets, given that KSE had just begun to build a huge following, and given that musically "The Art of Balance" was a complete change in direction for SF, it just struck me as if SF was jumping on the bandwagon.
