Shellshock Injected Into The Hive
Trigger Industries 2005
By Russell Garwood
Londons Shellshock are back. Following the bands self-released, eponymous EP, they seem to have been signed, lost a guitarist in tragic circumstances, and now released Injected Into The Hive. This new EP is similar in style to the bands debut, but with increased production values courtesy Dan W from SikTh. Twisted drum n bass and metal morph into something akin to the wretched offspring of Dani Filth and a boyracer. Bad analogies aside, one thing is for sure, this is aggressive and cutting edge. Rap and rock elements also appear, with a tonne of memorable melodies, and one hell of an attitude , all helping to create an intoxicating concoction.
Standout tracks stand as the acerbic Ultimate Solution and chameleonesque Easy Way Out, yet this is a consistent and well-written EP. Tight performances all round, a balanced mix and whole lot of fresh ideas ensure that Shellshock are definitely a band to watch. While fans of more traditional metal likely to be left nonplussed by Injected Into The Hive, if you like your music to push boundaries - and do it with style - this is a must.
