Silent Hill Cult Following...

The Silent Hill series of games is amazing, minus the 4th one. But I understand that that game was originally intended to have a different name and the Silent Hill title was just kinda slapped on to create excitement. In any case, the first 3 are definitely some of the most provoking and depressing games I've ever played. Much more scary than the Resident Evil "boo, I'm a zombie" bullshit. I don't think I jumped a single time playing RE but playing SH at night, with all the lights off and headphones was one of the most affecting game experiences I've ever had, esp. the 3rd one with it's amazing sounds and ambience. Plus, the psychological turmoil involved in some of the games, such as the end of the 2nd game...ohhh god, despair on a disc. I hear a movie is in the works. I'm really hoping they don't butcher it like I think they will. It has a lot of potential to be amazing if they aren't forced to hold back. If there aren't people in the depths of suicidal depression after a two hour SH movie, as far as I'm concerned the movie makers failed.

I actually have faith in the movie, Konami said they are personally handling and overseeing the script to make sure it stays with Sillent Hill's intellectual, dark, and psychological plot that it's built upon...

yeah, and then they'll get Uwe Boll to direct.

i only played and owned the original. it was definetly an incredible game. i got to the VERY last boss dude, and i didn't have the gun i needed..i would have to go back in the game and find it, so..i never beat it because of this stupid fact.

I adore all 4 games, as each has a distinct atmosphere unto itself. The first is sort of a claustrophobic experience (due to graphical limitations and the wonderful use thereof), the second is quite depressing (particularly if you get a certain ending), the third had parts that flat out scared the crap out of me (the room with the faucet and mirror that bleeds) and could probably be described as having a rather ambient, rusty feel to it. I'm in what seems to be the minority that adored the 4th game on it's own merits, as the concept of The Room was absolutely horrifying to me, with all of the small details that occured over the course of the game to the room just making it all the much harder to get through without taking breaks to catch my breath.

Silent Hill is probably my favorite game series (perhaps second to Metal Gear) and has the most hands down complex plot of any game, particularly with everything that goes unseen/unsaid. You really have to work to fully understand what's going on, and even then, it's up for debate.
