Kerry made it clear that he & Tom are getting part of the expenses before the "band split" occurs at the end. I know there are always two sides to every coin, but damn if that one side doesn't look rather dirty & scarred.

I'm being sincere when I ask this. Is there anyone that works in the music business not getting screwed one way or the other, business wise?

Yeah, that really struck me...maybe Dave did a poor job negotiating his contract, I don't know, but this certainly looks bad on Kerry and to a lesser extent, Tom.

I'm really curious where Jeff is in all of this. From a PR perspective, Slayer could probably survive losing Dave again - his animosity with Kerry in the past was no secret, and this could be chalked up to old issues coming back up. However, if Jeff doesn't come back and/or Tom leaves, Slayer is done.

I figured, but I wouldn't be surprised if people thought like that either.

Exactly. It is sad.
I mean all of us in bands have played gigs for no money, and its part of paying the dues. You exploit the opportunity each and every way possible for your own benefit (IE - making contacts, getting in good with the promoter, club, etc, making new fans, etc).

The average fan doesnt have a clue how many people have to get paid long before a band member makes a dime.

Now I have no idea how Slayer is financially structured.
Dave's letter above would indicate that the band has been incorporated.
That being said, each person who works for "Slayer Inc" would be an employee to which all their "Cuts" would be deductible.

This could prove VERY beneficial for each member of Slayer.

GIven what he posts above, the only way it couldn't be is depending on what Dave's ownership percentage is.

Whether or not he got paid before or after a tour? That seems like something he should have ironed out BEFORE hitting the road, just like what was being proposed for this upcoming Aussie tour........

As someone said above, Slayer survived without Lombardo before.
They aren't striving because of his return, but rather still living in the shadow of the whole BIG 4 thing. Let's face it. Can anyone honestly name 5 songs off their last album?????????

????

you have been in bands and are also in one now? never knew this...you should mention it more.

I agree....I think a lot of people are under the impression that even a third tier power metal act makes enough money to just play music.

There was a great interview with the singer from Primordial about the future of music. Gave a great insight to where things will be in the future.

As a bit of a tie-in, the festival tour that Lombardo refers to is Soundwave. It's becoming known as the drummer-less festival. Dave Lombardo, Charlie Benante, Josh Freese and Travis Barker won't be appearing with their respective bands. Alot of disappointed folks here. On a positive, Lars WILL be appearing hehe.
