Yep you heard right. Tom has stated publically that he is getting to old for this now Headbanging thing and said the next album (with Rubin) will most likely be there last, then the band will sit down and discuss the future.

Sigh :(

Oh well - all good things must come to an end.

It's propably for the best if they choose to go out while still on top of their game. They had the reunion with Lombardo, they won a grammy:)Smug:) and all that. I just can't imagine Tom screaming Angle of Death forever.

Yeah they've been talking about this for the last year or so. I reckon they have 1 record left in them and that'll be it. I'd imagine that with a lot of their touring and headlining some of those tours they'd be pretty comfortable by now (but I could be wrong?)

Tom Araya has always been my favorite member of Slayer, and if calling it quits is because he doesn't want to spend a lot of time on the road doing the rockstar thing and would rather be on the ranch in Texas with his family I can fully understand that.

I just hope he and the rest of the guys don't give up on music in general. I can understand not wanting to be pushing 50 and screaming Angel of Death on stage, I'd still love to hear Tom playing music and singing still, Slayer's cover of Hand of Doom was freaking awsome, I'd really like to hear him sing more instead of the screaming stuff.

Understandable, and to face reality, this is going to be the norm until those of us who started out with these bands will be sitting back and recollecting nothing but fond memories.

Slayer, whether you agree or not, gave us everything of themselves and we took it and demanded more. I'm just glad to have been there from the beginning of the NWOBHM and rode one of the greatest waves in musical history.

I am confused...surely if Araya goes, then they'll get another singer in?

They could do four great albums with the new singer, then just when the're on a peak of creativity they could get the new singer to rerecord a load of Araya-era songs...and then they get Araya back for a reunion.

And then the reunion splits. So they get the new singer back...oh wait, he's moved on. Best get ANOTHER new singer then. No on will notice the join, I mean, you've pissed off all but 1% of the original fans by now anyway, so who's even gonna be watching?!

Yes, it's the first time they're seriously considering to retire, but - to make that clear - nothing has been cast in stone yet. They're owning Rubin one more record, after that the future is pretty open. I'd say it's about 50/50 if they will go on or not. They're on of the very few bands that have remained they're integrity and relevance throughout the years, but the passion is obviously fading (especially with Jeff and Tom), so the occasion seems fitting.

Edit: And, btw, there's absolutely no way Slayer would continue without Tom, Jeff or Kerry.

I never got into Slayer. At least they know when thier time is up. I hope this frees up Dave for more work with "Fantomas"

not a huge fan myself but they have been blessed with very loyal fans, ive seen them live and they were quite ordinary live, each to here own i guess, bad news for hardcore slayer fans though.

Actually it's a bit of a nothing story really - Basically Araya has said in an interview that after the next album they're gonna sit down and seriously re-assess whether the band is done or whether to carry on. So..erm..they may split up or they may carry one, they don't know. Like I say, not news is it?!
