Chicago-based guitarist Rob Scallon has released a video for his ukulele cover version of the SLAYER classic "War Ensemble". Check it out below. Scallon — whose month-old guitar video containing only a few licks from 30 classic songs in the space of 60 seconds has already been viewed more than half a million times on YouTube — says that he took the original "War Ensemble" recordings and replaced the guitars with the ukulele. The ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian interpretation of the machete, a small guitar-like instrument related to the cavaquinho, timple, braguinha and the rajão, taken to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants, many from the Macaronesian Islands. It gained great popularity elsewhere in the United States during the early 20th century, and from there spread internationally."War Ensemble" is the opening song on SLAYER's fifth studio album, "Seasons In The Abyss", which was released on October 9, 1990 through Def American Records.
