I had the chance to mix this really epic song and I wondered what you guys would think of the mix. I think I can safely say this is my best work yet. For those who don't know, Slice The Cake is Gareth and Jonas (Gubbkuk)'s band and they're awesome.

Thanks to Joe Matthews, Joe (professorlamps), CJ and Jonas for their help (and thanks to Jonas for the tracks too). :D

By the way the clean guitars and clean vocals aren't mixed yet as I haven't received the files.

I really want criticism, and also feel free to ask if you've got any questions.

Squander! Fuck yes!

Sounds really good man, the only thing is that there's this weird midrange conflict going on between the bass/kick and harsh vocals, and you're losing some definition in some of the leads.

Love the song, love the mix.

this is a great song! I honestly have nothing bad to say about it.

Random Note: It was weird seeing this band name on this forum because i accidentally found them last year! and my buddy told me they recorded vox with a 57. ok i'm done being off topic :D

I think the bass could be turned up a bit, I love bass heavy mixes and i can't hear enough bass on this :D but apart from that, its sounding pretty good!

Thanks for the comments everyone :D, I've been told the mix pumps at times so I might chill out the mastering a bit.

@Ben : I don't hear any midrange conflicts but I'll try checking out the mix on my headphones and some other speakers to see if there's one. You're definitely right about the leads though, I've gotta work on them a bit as they lack a bit of definition in the mix (like at 0:45).
@sk8a123 : Gareth recorded the vocals with a 57, it's a great vocal mic in my experience, quite possibly the best you can use for screams at its price point.
@Sonny : I actually ended up removing a little bit of bass in the mastering as I've been told the (really low) lows were a bit out of control, but I'll try adding a little bit more and keeping it balanced.
@Ze4th0x : I automated a few higher screams about 40/40, sounds better than center but it's not as noticeable as hard left/right. I personally don't feel the need to spread them out that much more, in a more hardcore/deathcore mix with guitars having a less important place I'd do it though, I actually did that on a mix not long ago.

Thanks to all, please keep criticizing the mix!

I won't upload the files as it's not my song, you could ask Jonas (his name over here is Gubbkuk) if you can have the files, but he's one of my good friends and since this is copyrighted material I don't know if he'd let everybody gain access to it.

Guitars were TSE 808 into soloc into lecab 2 (I used Burny's BR angled-in_DC and Ryan's 2off-pres8 impulses), which made up 85% of the sound, then they were EQ'd, sent to a saturation plugin, a multiband compressor, an exciter (no lows boosting, just a tiny bit of highs), etc. I really dig smooth guitar sounds and I've been struggling at them which is why I thought of using other impulses.

Only the Ludwig Black Beauty snare from Superior 2's Avatar kit. No other samples. Actually there are no exterior samples except the kick which is 50% MF, 50% "Unbelievable Pearl Forum kick" (from the sample pack downloadable at http://erdo.se).

By the way the guitars were 5150 and Line 6 cab, not 6505+ ;).

MF?
Anyway, mix sounds good to me. I would possibly turn the bass up a bit
