I had problems with my computer last week-end, I couldn't work in Pro tools more than like 20 minutes because it eventually always froze...Then it started to freeze randomly, not just in pro tools. So I reinstalled XP on sunday night.

It haven't crashed yet, but I noticed that when I transfer file between drives it is unusually realllly slow, like 30 minutes for a 4gb folder. I also tried to install superior drummer, but the estimated time was like 4 hours? ::zombie: And every big problems like Superior or Omnisphere takes en age ( Omnishere took about 3 hours).

Any idea why it takes so long? Both my hard drives are freshly defragmented. They're both Western Digital Black caviar. My motherboard is Asus P5QL pro.

Thanks!

Found the problem, I followed this guide: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/ts/detail.php?Index=30058 . This step really made my hard drives slower:

Write Caching

Write caching, or write-behind caching, is a technique that keeps a small amount of data in a cache prior to writing it to the disk. While normally a good thing, performance can be increased by writing data directly to the hard drive, in essence bypassing the cache. Practically speaking, adjusting this will allow your audio to be written immediately to the hard drive, improving speed while recording. To set this, go to the Device Manager by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting "Manage" and then "Device Manager." Click on the "+" next to "Disk Drives." Right-click on a drive and choose "Properties," then "Policies." Uncheck the box that says "Enable write caching..." and press "OK." Repeat this for all of your hard drives.

Now its taking me 3minutes for the same 4 gb files 8-)
