just recording these kids...they didn't re-invent the weel, but I really enjoyed working with their grooving songs. I also think it's cool that young people are still making music like this...

anyways, here's the first roughmix, feel free to give me some opinions

CTPT-Pit

guitars are Hagström Swede intro Fuzz-JMP-Bogner Ubercab, at250 on the V30 and m160 on the t75

Drums are my Yamaha Recording Customs...

of course for this music: no click, no editing, no samples etc

main recording is live, vocals and second guitar were overdubbed.
all consistent takes all the way through, no comping.

I don't mind a bit of pumping, on the solo it may be a bit much though, might look into that later

Definitely a great approach for the genre, if the musicians are good enough of course, and this seems to be the case. IMO the guitars could use some less low-mids, where some distorted bass could dwell a bit more, but that´s just my opinion. Rest is great, love the drums, more natural-sounding impossible

Oh man, I love the tracking/mixing and quite like the band. Have nothing to comment on mixing, it's the way I like it for this genre. Drummer is 50% of the band lol.

I dig the fuck out of this.

That is exactly how fuzzed out guitars should sound. Drums sound fucking sweet, especially the snare, and that drummer is a fucking badass.

I think the bass could be louder and considerably more distorted, though.

Sounds awesome, both in guitar tone as well in the non-sampled drums department! You're seriously making me wish I had more time to mess with my JMP collecting dust at the moment! Definitely some obvious pumping in the solo for sure, but you mentioned that. The only thing I can pick out is a weird frequency coming out of the right side overhead track. That could just be my ear it doesn't agree with, though!

Thanks guys.
actually the bass is very loud and quite distorted...blends in with the guits though.

about the pumping: it fucking drove me crazy until I realized it's not actually pumping it's some weird playing in the solo...like a gap/missing note that makes it sounds weird

Sounds great to me, could even be a bit dirtier, especially the drums
but since those are allready without samples they are just miced too good I guess lol

For a live recording its pretty great. But it's a little empty (you could say it breathes, if that's what you're going for then fantastic). The music really reminds me of Godsmack, and the mix a little of their album Awake, but I'm sorry to say the mix doesn't come to near to the aggression and power of the Awake mix.
I would cut some lowmids on the guitars and put some more mids/highmids in, turn up the room on the drums significantly and crush the whole song a little more.

na, was actually not going for too dirty (for vibe and feel yes).
actually the guitars are already too biting for what I wanted to go for in the first place(Kyuss), but the band has some other more stoner-like references, so this was the compromise that suited the music best while still pleasing me and the musicians.

(listen how different kyuss and for example cathedral-caravan... or Spiritual Beggars-On Fire sound.... my goal was to give the band a unique sound but be somewhere in between those extremes
