I'm looking for a small (25-49 key) MIDI controller and there are so fricken many of them out there, I don't really know where to start.

Yeah, I know they all do pretty much the same thing. I'm just looking for some feedback. Do you have one you like? Don't like? I just want to trigger DFHS, fuck around with some soft synths, and hopefully spend less that $200 doing so.

The Roland Keytar thing is $500, so unfortunately, that's out. :Smug:

Get something with pads if you want to work with drums. For that buget I would heavily consider the m-audio axiom. I have a novation SL and I love it but I am guessing that is to much for you.

Nice. Those both look really good. You're right, the novation looks really nice, but it's pricey. I like that it comes in a 37 key version. Might have to spring for that.

Thanks!

I recently got me the Axiom 25 and am totally in love with the look, handling and feel - and of course those trigger pads for drumming. Somehow it's way cooler in real life than on the pics...
I'm not much of a keyboarder, for programming the odd synth phrase, background pad or bass part 25 keys are ok for me, so I sold my old keyboard controller.
The 25 key version is small enough to put it on my lap or hold it in weird ways when banging on the pads or turning knobs - that adds to the overall appeal, playability and creativity. For me thats more fun and more natural than having some big unit fixed on a keyboard-stand in front of me.
YMMV :goggly:
