For those of you who record a top and bottom snare....here's a tip if you didn't already know this
record the top snare preferably with a sm57 and get a nice crack to it.
record the bottom snare with a pencil condenser mic pointed at the snares, eq some of the lows and mids down.
get a nice mix with more of the crack and give the top mic some reverb. do not put any reverb on the bottom mic and mix to taste.

because the reverb will get all the snare sizzle from the top mic...you can put a reverb on the bottom mic but i have found that it sounds too crackly...if crackly is a word.

I've started to mix drums for this band, just drums, because I don't have nothing else tracked ATM, and I've used reverb on the bottom snare as well, not so much on the top, but it's there, the guitars you hear in the back are from the guide which are peaking so nevermind those.

But you think I should take off the bttm snare reverb then?

Btw, I used an i5 on the top and 57 on bottom

hey thanks, it's just a pre-mix, so obviously everything will be at it's place when I track gtrs bass and vox this week :)

I'm a pretty impatient guy, I don't ever settle for one thing, so sometimes I screw up things, this snare has seen lots of colors and sounds, I feel I nailed it quite good this time, then I hear other mixes and I feel like changing everything again >_< ..... Anyways, since I think I won't mess with it anymore this time, next time I will try it that way :)

funny....
i prefer using the bottom mic as the send to the reverb.... less hi hat in it innnit
