snow2fall + other pink floyd fans

Oh don't misunderstand, I see Waters as a near genius who has let his personal obsessions obscure his ability to put together an atmospheric thematic album together like Animals. He's been buoyed by both clapton and beck on the aforementioned albums, but I guess I've grown bored by his amateur psychonanalysis...

That's only my opinion, so that won't even buy you a cup of coffee:)

Alternatively, gilmour is a stunningly atmospheric guitarist, and he revolutionized Floyd, no way was Syd's whimsical stuff going to survive the 60s

So...s band that eas more than the sum of its parts

I love Gilmour's 1st solo CD
Still have to listen Gilmour's solo stuff. Looks like he just put a new one out, On An Island. Any opinions about that one?

I'm not overly fond of Syd Barrett's stuff, but I enjoy it every now and then. Curious if Duncan Patterson and Vincent Cavanagh will make their dream of a Barrett tribute album come true.

not familiar with the newest gilmour cd...but like I say, the first one is a gem.

I think Barrett was purely a 60s phenomenon, and there seems to be some sort of sick cult for people who are tragic drug casualties. Like Roky Erikson and Skip Spence. It's hard to imagine that songs about effervescing elephants would have been palatable even a few years later. In that respect Floyd was lucky to fill the guitarist slot with a guy who could help the band to megastar status...

to me, the band peaked with the Wish you Were Here/DSOTM/Animals trilogy, The Wall has some great moments but as a double album it would have been better as a single [/blasphemy]

I think I'm also negatively influenced by Waters' silly lawsuits trying to claim the band was not Floyd without him.

But I hope you have fun at the show :)

I have no doubt I will - I'm going with my crazy Texan friend Pam. :loco:

I agree about Barrett/ early Pink Floyd being a phenomenon of their time. The Wall was the album that got me hooked on Pink Floyd, it was the first one I heard. I think I'd call Dark Side Of The Moon my favourite today, so I'm particularly looking forward to Waters' solo performance of that album.

I never cared much about the discussion that followed Waters' leaving the band. I love the post-Waters era albums about just as much as I love the others. Maybe they should have continued under a different name, I dunno. *shrugs* I couldn't care less.

I can understand that being the reason, along with the experimentation for its own sake that followed Syd's departure, why many of the band members are embarrassed by some of their pre-DSOTM albums (underrated even by the band...Roger hates Atom Heart Mother, Rick regrets his contributions to Saucerful of Secrets, etc.)

nick masons book (inside out) is out in paperback now
worth a read for floyd fans
I have the big hard back, which is nice

I think that momentary lapse of reason should have been a gilmour solo album, but they were trying to keep a hold of the name
the devision bell is not bad but the post waters stuff is a bit watery
i think they needed rodger waters for that dark edge, and without the other members waters really does disapear up his own hole

the wall is half good -half mediocre pants
when waters started becoming the controlling force I think his ego just snowballed and he wouldn't be told what was shit

the final cut proves this I think
even doing the cover himself.....bad idea

very similar to pete townsend. his solo stuff is crap to a large degree because there's nothing to balance out his "genius".

but snow2fall is much more familiar with waters' solo stuff so I'll be glad to point out that opinions are subjective.
