I finally gave in and got a smartphone.

What I want to know is if there are any recommended applications for this thing, primarily music related.

It came with the Slacker app which I love, as I am a HUGE fan.

Are there any metal label apps, etc??
Stuff like that?

Does yours have a GPS?

Get Google Maps, Opera Mini. A weather app is cool. A lot of people like WeatherBug, but I like the Weather Channel's app.

Go to Blackberryforums.com. In the software section you can find a stickied post about great 3rd party programs. Oh yeah. While you're there, download and install the latest update for your OS. Read the instructions though.

there should be an app called "Everyone return your cell phones". I hate them and refuse to own one. They are unnecessary and a distraction.

Take Jibrille's advice and get Pandora. I already used it on my laptop alot. I got my Blackberry about 3 weeks ago, and I finally got one because of Pandora. If you sign up on your PC, you can tweak it easier than the phone and get to use that on the phone once completed.
Also try Poynt which gives you directions, restaurants, movietimes, etc. all these you can locate from your cell location, or pick an address. If you're into sports try Score Mobile. If you go to Blackberry apps. and search "top free" you'll find these and more.
Hope you like em!!

True but I still have my horse (home phone) and will never give it up. I just personally don't understand the need for one. Seriously its not something that is even necessary.

Uses for the cell phone range from the convenient to the critical.

I spend a lot of time on the road for my job and the cell phone keeps me in touch with my appointments and family. It would be very difficult do this job without it.

My husband got to spend an awesome time skiing with me last weekend because of his Blackberry. He had to be on a conference call, with access to files, for about an hour on Saturday. Without the phone, he would have had to go into work.

My mother gets lost when she drives. I’ve fielded many panic calls and helped her find her way. She now has a GPS app and loves it. But she always knows she can reach help if she needs it.

I broke down last year on a remote road in the dark and was able to call AAA and my husband. No pay phones for miles.

My son had a barrel fall on his head at work resulting in a huge laceration. The hospital was able to reach my husband and me only because we had our cell phones.

My father resisted getting one for years, then when his mother was dying a few months back, it was essential for him to be able to keep in touch with the rest of the family and keep them informed as well as take care of her affairs. He doesn’t leave home w/o it now.

I could go on and on and on and on. The advantages of having a phone accessible at all times are endless. If you don’t want to be bothered – turn it off. Simple.
I’m not trying to pick a fight, seriously, but while you may not find it necessary for your life, to say there is no need for others to have them is a limited perspective. Sure, some people use them excessively, needlessly, rudely and even dangerously, but you can say the same about people and their cars, and many other things as well.

Yea, I too, still have a land line at home, but that's the number I give to people I don't want to bother me on my "real" phone.

Well I am an 80's guy and never needed one in HS or college. I dont refute your reasons for having one. I just feel personally, for ME that they are unnecessary in 99.9% of instances. People can leave messages for me at home. I leave the house to leave the phone behind. Its that simple. I refused a phone for work, got in trouble. Still don't care. Its a personal decision and I am not passing judgement on anyone that feels they need one.

I resisted gettting a cellphone for a loong time, preferring my pager. (Remember pagers?) Then I took a cautious step, getting a cheap plan and intending to use the phone only for emergencies. Things eventually snowballed. :)

For me, the near-miraculous thing about cellphones is that you can travel all across the country -- and in some cases, even farther overseas -- and the network infrastructure is still able to route a call directly to your phone within seconds. And of course, if you're an over-the-road trucker or a retiree travelling cross-country and living in your RV, it's the only way you can stay in touch.
