i never said he was the nastiest lyricist. i agree that his lyrics are terrible but they are by far not the worst.
so i went ahead and bought the new iced earth cd

he has managed some fun lyrics though. i don't feel embarssed to sing along with iced earth songs.

i remember reading an interview with david bowie i think post 9-11 where he said he wasn't looking forward to the sloppily put together tribute songs because even the intention is good the fact remains that you need to really be a good lyricist to truly interpret that kind of tragedy and pay respect in a song, ala bruce springsteen and NOT jon schaffer.
and oh man the part in "Atilla" where they have a chorus of angry Huns singing one part and chorus of Holy Roman soldiers singing the other part is so friggin amazing.

I also got this album yesterday greggor. I love Tim Owens on this one.. I think he did a great job. The lyrics do really suck on a ton of the album though. That 9-11 song is the most godawful thing on this planet. It sucks that metal was invaded by that.. now I cant make fun of Toby Keith as much.

I ordered a copy from The End the day they put it in stock (about 2 weeks ago)... still haven't got it. I suspect it's the post office's fault, though.

I picked this CD up on Friday. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but:
one thing I do agree with, in the liner notes is that Gettysburg is one of the eeriest, most spell binding places in america, especially the Bloody Angle (High Water Mark)
