This Memorial Day holds a very special and somber place in the heart's of the Cheek family. our new Son-In-Law (Mary's Husband) Josh is in IRAQ, and to say we are worried is to say the least, so today in our household we will celebrate with a prayer not only for Josh but for all the men and women in uniform who are at the present in harm's way.

Also, let us not forget the ones who have fallen, and especially those known only to God.

Why the 24 hour a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year Guard at the Tomb of the Unknows.

It is part honor, part symbolism, but more so to just say that we never forget. By keeping a guard there 24/7/365, we are honoring all of those who have fallen and have never been found or identified.

Some may find this tradition odd or wasteful, but those are the ones who truly do not understand. Believe it or not, there is a profound difference between a soldier who falls on the battlefield and whose body is recovered versus a soldier whose whereabouts are never known. Psychologically it is many times harder for a family to never know just what happened to their loved one because they do not have closure. If they knew their loved one died, they could begin the healing process and begin to move on, but for the families of those whose bodies have never been recovered, that emptiness in their hearts will forever and always remain.

ARLINGTON
(as sung by Trace Adkins)

I never thought that this is where I'd settle down,
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown,
They gave me this plot of land, me and some other men, for a job well done,
There's a big white house sits on a hill just up the road,
The man inside he cried the day they brought me home,
They folded up a flag and told my mom and dad, we're proud of your son

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property,
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company,
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done,
I can rest in peace, I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington

I remember daddy brought me here when I was eight,
We searched all day to find out where my granddad lay,
And when we finally found that cross,
He said, "son this is what it cost to keep us free" Now here I am,
A thousand stones away from him,
He recognized me on the first day I came in,
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, and saluted me.

And every time I hear twenty-one guns,
I know they brought another hero home to us

We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done,
We can rest in peace, 'cause we are the chosen ones,
We made it to Arlington, yea dust to dust,
Don't cry for us, we made it to Arlington.

I appreciate all the support for the U.S. military. As a U.S. veteran I am very thankful of those that served and lost their lives. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. God Bless!!

J-Man, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family on this Memorial Day weekend.

Now, I do believe I'll play a tune from Sabaton called, Purple Heart, dedicated to the U.S. Armed Forces. :kickass:
