I like it. It's unmistakeabe Zero Hour. The new vocalist has a very smooth and melodic mid-range. However, he doesn't have the dynamic range of former vocalist Eric Rosvald. The new vocalist seems to got caught in his comfort zone. Don't get me wrong, he sounds great at his chosen range, but IMO, the disk would be better had he pushed his range just a bit more in both directions (without doing something that he can't do well).

"A Fragile Mind" is certainly a keeper for Zero Hour fans, but doesn't reach the bar set by the band with their earlier releases, "The Towers of Avarice" and "Metamorphosis".

I am terribly disappointed with it. I listened to a fair amount of it in dweeb's room on Friday and frankly I was disgusted by the lyrics. The new singer is a decent replacement for Erik - not nearly as unique and expressive, but he has a very similar tonal range and should nail the old stuff well. The lyrics are mostly his work, and they (in general) are trite, boring, utterly mediocre shit, by even normal metal standards. The music is absolutely kick-ass, so if you don't care about lyrics at all just buy the thing and rock out.

I guess I knew that Erik wrote all the lyrics before, and they were always so different, in composition and in his delivery of them. I know I can't change what has happened, and frankly I was quite willing to accept them with a new voice and direction, but I was really looking forward to a vocal experience on par with that of previous ZH releases. This just doesn't cut it - the lyrics are simply unacceptable to me. Then again, I'm pretty snobby about that sort of thing.

Ah well, there's always next time, guys. I still love the musicians in Zero Hour, and I will still support the band in general.
Now and Forever,
