i saw "wotanskult" for sale and the artwork really apealed to me and i also got this odd feeling telling me to make a chance purchase. but i got hold of myself and searched this forum for posts about them but the results where pretty meagre.

anyway, are they worth checking out and if so which album should i go for?

Wotanskult is the vinyl version of Jagdheim, featuring an excellent bonus track - HIGHLY recommended, very original and melodic BM.
They have just released a new album called "Faust für Faust", I think Dreamlord already has it... I'd be interested in his opinion.

They're a hard band to describe. I've only listened to their stuff a few times.

THey are a pagan black metal band. THe first two have semi-hokey keyboards. I actually like Uralte Gedanken though. The debut is kinda hit or miss.

Jagdheim and Faust For Faust are better. No hokey keyboards. Female vocals occasionally in Faust For Faust.

If you like the mid paced black metal, Bergthron are worth a shot.

I can't think of a comparable band... they're really quite unique. The material on Jagdheim (and probably on Faust für Faust too) is bass-driven, melodic and very majestic, yet devoid of any cheese (and there are no keyboards on the later stuff, as Dreamlord said). The songs are very long and the vocals are usually clean and quite melodic - you know, the "heathen"-type singing ;)

There's some growling, sure, but on the later material it's the clean vocals that stand out IMHO.

just listened to Bergthron's entire catalogue. Faust For Fuast goes back to some of those keyboards laden moments. But I think it's my favorite of their stuff. Jagdheim is also very good.

If I like Bergthron, will I like Astrofaes and Hate Forest?

I actually downloaded the first track from their latest record today, but I turned it off pretty soon; those clear vocals were pretty damn awful :ill: But that was my first impression with Wotanskult as well, which I like a lot now after hearing numermous times, so I shall persevere I guess and give some more tries. (But they were quite awful)

Well I thought I might have time to delete that post before anyone saw it but it seems you were too fast; I'm listening to it now and, yeah, it's not bad, quite the contrary :loco:

(Damn, sometimes I really suck)

Faust für Faust? I didn't think it was all that. The music was ok, but the vocalist just goes on and on and on and on ad nauseum like Glenn fucking Benton. I don't think there is one moment on that album that doesn't feature vocals. It would be so much better if they allowed some of the passages to just stay instrumental.
