So who likes The Gathering?

Heard their stuff on Gotham Radio a lot, so I got Mandylion and got the earlier albums. Then I started working my way forward and was like "WTF???". Pretty boring. It's all stoner rock and nothing more. Mandylion is great, especially if you're into goth. Anything afterward is BBBBBBBBBOOOORRRRRRRRRing. The first two albums are doom/death.

There was a thread about the gathering yesterday on the DT board. I chimed in with the same thoughts.

Sleepy Buildings sounds cool, except for the fact that they didn't put such songs as Leaves on it. Stupid asses trying to distance themselves too much from their goth past.

Incidentally, Testament's The Gathering is much better than these lameasses.

Exactly. Mandylion and earlier albums are very awesome. After that ...:yuk:

I have all of their albums. Really interesting and varied trip-rock. More metal-ish if you go back a ways in their catalogue. I always buy their albums without worrying if I will like it or not, and I am never disappointed. You should check out the last full length, Souvenirs. The duet with Garm on "A Life All Mine" is a high point.

Mandylion is a killer fucking album. Anneke vocals are incredible and ideal female vocals. The band backs her up very nicely. The doomy atmospheric guitars,etc.. kill.

I can't stress enough how great her vocals sound especially on the chorus for 'Leaves'. Favorite song would be 'Eleanor'.

The poems kind of suck on Mandylion, but the delivery is amazing. She manipulates her voice in really amazing and fascinating ways to fit the words to the music.

Now just be forewarned. You're getting a lot of "love it" or "hate it" for their stuff after Mandylion. Whether you like it or not, be prepared for something unlike metal, goth, doom, or even rock in many or most places. It's gets trippy enough that it's pretty repetitive and boring.

Mandylion is their best release i feel.
i like alot of their stuff though
i find it more heading in the indie rock genre if anything
don't know where you get the stoner rock from...

her voice is great. i bought their live DVD good stuff on there.
but nothing will beat their older albums.
