So who's getting the new Soilwork?

I noticed that my buddy Dill the Devil gave the new album an 8.5/10! I listened to one song off the new one, but I'm not sure if I feel any differently about the band. Honestly, I'd rather listen to new Soilwork than new In Flames or new Arch Enemy, but that's not saying much. I also think they are better than 75% of the "new" metal coming from the US. Still . . . that's not saying much.

Just curious what everybody else thinks.

Well, if it's a choice between the three, I would rather listen to new In Flames and Arch Enemy than Soilwork. So there you have it....

Actually, I thought they hit rock bottom at Figure Number Five.

heard the new one ... same like The Haunted ... they just don't know where to take it any longer. The vocals are overwhelming in the mix and the songs ... blah.

I actually enjoyed NBC a lot ... but FNF and this ... stick a fork in 'em, they're done!

I really don't get why people hate it so much... like I said in the review, they're hardly the same band who cut Chainheart Machine anymore - their sound has changed a lot, but it sounds to me like they're really comfortable with what they're doing now, and when a band's heart is in what they're recording, it shows in the songs. They're well put-together, the choruses are excellent, Speed's vocal diversity is on top form... I dunno, maybe I'm just wired up differently to everyone else.

What the hell, I'm listening to Backstabbers Inc. at the moment anyway. :D

Yeah but what you're not getting is that LOTS of people hated Soilwork even back then. What style they play today is irrelevant. :tickled:

I agree with what you've said. The bottom line, with any band, is song quality. And I think the songs on this one are strong. The other thing that I dig about Soilwork are Speed's vocals. I think both his Deathish and clean vocals are very strong.

Even if the style is totally different to what came before? Does that mean people who formerly hated the band are going to continue hating them no matter what they do? Sounds a bit unfair to me... :loco:

Yeah, that seems to be the way. I guess some people started off on the wrong foot and kept hopping along. :loco:

Personally, I think they peaked at "Predators Portrait" - it's great for what it's meant to be, plus the story to the concept it pretty cool. I also liked NBC -- granted I don't listen to this genre anymore -- but when it first came out, it sounded fresh. NBC is meant for driving fast in the sun, it's a fun album with catchy soaring choruses. I like Devy's production on it.

FNF and the latest have nothing to offer. Even if they came out 5 years ago, they would still offer nothing. They are neither melodious or catchy, and that's what pop metal should be IMO. The worst part is, both albums were made in a rush and you can tell. Very little thought put into it.....just going through the motions and thinking of getting on to US tour schedules. Mallrats will love it obviously.

wow ... i actually agree with all these statements.
NBC is hard to top as far as catchy and melodic is concerned.
