My Soilwork CD/DVD/T-shirt just arrived today and I've gotta say this is killer! Don't judge the songs or the mix by the MySpace audio, it's really a much better record than I thought initially and I like it more with each spin!

The bonus DVD is awesome, mainly for the in-studio footage. It's really cool how they recorded so much of this record simultaneously on separate rigs (with Speed on a separate continent!), then put it all together for the mix. The live footage is basically a camera mounted to the FOH board at a show, kind of crappy audio quality but still a cool performance.

The shirt is awesome, the best Soilwork shirt I have.

BASTARD!!! You beat me to the post!!!

Haha, ruling!

I was gonna call you this afternoon to hear your thoughts. I thought the best part of the recording had to be Devin's antics!

Edit: I love how our mail couldn't have been here for more than a couple hours and we've both already watched the DVD.

WTF? I live 20 minutes closer to Century Media and you got yours before I did? Damn!

Can't wait for this thing to get in! I fucking love how Devin acts in these kinds of things... this should be good!

After listening to this during my workout today, I've decided this is my favorite Soilwork album. Or at least, that I'd put it right up there with "Natural Born Chaos" and "A Predator's Portrait" and my other favorite Soilwork albums.

But there's something about this new album that really speaks to me, I think the way they had Devin work with Speed on the vocals has given an emotional edge and a massive push to the vocals that sets this apart from all the other Soilwork albums. I think this process would be advantageous for them and other bands to pursue in the future. Devin really has a unique talent to push vocalists outside their comfort zone and get amazing results in the studio, so he gets a big thumbs up for his work on this one!

The guitar, drums, and bass are equally amazing and my favorite riffing and solos since "A Predators Portrait." Sven has really come into his own on the keyboards this time, too. I can't say enough good things about it, best release of 2007 IMO!!

I got mine a week ago, but haven't watched the dvd yet...

I agree 100% with Shane. I was so dissapointed in their previous record and was afraid that it would be the end of these guys. IMO this might be their strongest record just because the songs are so great. I don't think there are any weak songs on this one and the Speed's vocals have never sounded this good.

Devin also produced the vocals on the new Himsa record. The first time I heard it, I immediately thought "damn these vocals are great. soooo much better than on their previous records". He seems to be a great vocal producer :kickass: .

Damn, now I'm interested in this. Yet another CD to pick up.

In saying that it's their best since APP or NBC, is it similar to them, or just "as good" as them?

Similar in many ways actually, but still new. Definitely more progressive elements again, more shredding, longer songs, definitely a lot of stuff going on and it takes many listens to pick up on all of it. I'm really happy to hear that complexity and lushness in their music again!

This album is much better than I expected. I really think the album before (the only Soilwork I ever heard) was a bunch of crap ... I ended up skipping through the songs ...

Enjoying the new one on first listen.

I too have been listening non-stop to Sworn... it is by far my favorite Soilwork album since APP. I agree wholeheartedly with Shane --in regards to it being different, but similar in many ways to their other albums. This has got to be up there as the best 2007 release!! Great album. BUY IT NOW.

PS - the t-shirt is fuckin' amaaaazing. Also, did anyone else notice that Devin is looking a bit chunky? :kickass:

I got the package DVD/Shirt deal too, very cool...and I couldn't be happier with this release all the way around. Anyone else get a kick out of watching Strid throw down some guitar? He's actually pretty decent!
