Well I woke up about 9 this morning, I turn on the TV, and the first thing I see is the Soilwork video on MTV2 for "as we speak". I'd say this is a good thing...a gothenburg-type band, on MTV2, in america. wow.:D

what's so good about it?!
now every little papa roach fan will start to love them, but I don't really take it as a suprise, because their latest album is more nu metal.. i'm sure in couple more albums they will totally become nu metal.

when band gets popular, the music starting to suck and that's a fact.
That happened to In Flames, Metallica, Opeth (and many more) and now Soilwork...
the only exception is Tool.

In Flames, and Opeth aren't popular (by mainstream standards). Metallica was popular before their music started to suck. Soilwork's new album is their best, and most original work.

It's all subjective, but you really strike me as one of those "the more obscure, the better" people. Good music is good music, regardless of popularity.

I think it's great that Soilwork is getting some recognition.

wake up, In Flames are very popular band today...that popular that they performed with slipknot. just go to one of their shows and see how many are there....
listen to their new album, PURE SHIT!

Opeth becoming more popular with every album, Demon of the fall was their first success and they liked it and started making more acceible and sucky albums...

and I don't love only underground brutal 666 coo grim stuff...I like many styles of music, and I don't love many popular bands, but I do listen to those who can balance between their success and their music, and are still creating emotional and artistic music.

So, I'm to understand that accessiblity makes something bad? Opeth is still creating emotional and artistic music. They haven't changed all that much, they are just less riff oriented than they use to be. And ten minute songs aren't accessible to most people.

Just because In Flames toured with Slipknot doesn't make them popular. When I hear "Pinball Map," or "Jester's Dance" on the radio, or see a video on MTV, then I'll acknowledge that they are getting somewhat popular.

And they are another band that hasn't changed much. Their sound changed a little bit when one of their guitarists left, and they use more clean vocals now. I'd say they are more accessible, but not necessarily worse because of it.

imho, mtv will end up ruining it, like they ruin a lot of bands, i never liked mtv because of the way they market the music now, its mainly addressed to teen kids w/ not much "musical standards". lately ill admit more and more kids are demanding better music (have u seen the influx of new "garage like bands" w/ decent talent?) well yea thats all mtvs doing and a lot of them still suck or have shady stories behind them, all i know is that mtv is all for making more money, and mtv2 is just a cheap ploy to play better music, when mtv in reality is just tryin to save its own ass, why u may ask? because many ppl. have bitched about mtvs greediness, and they try to make it up by having another channel...im afeared that mtv will turn another good band into something bad...of course its not gonna happen over night or even in a few months, but in the end its all the same...:(

MtV sucks, but it doesn't turn bad bands to good, except that those bands make compromises partly to be on MTV, which is a step toward more money and girls. Opeth have hardly sold out. I think there is a difference between selling out and evolving. Why make the same album over and over?

Metallica are a good case. You can see their evolution from Kill em All to Justice, then... boom. Three minute pop songs, eight videos (they said they'd never meake videos, then after "one" the said they'd only make artistically serious videos, then they made a slew of totally banal videos for the black album), now cutting a track with Ja Rule.

Anyway, sometimes that evolution is going to lead to more accesable music. Actually, I think that's probably the norm for metal. Eventually, you want to try clean vox, change up speeds more and so forth. Plus, people mellow with age.
