Solution 13 - Solution 13
Low Frequency Records
By Adam McAuley
I couldn't help the overwhelming feeling of boredom I had when listening to this CD. Solution 13 play a rather simple form of industrial metal/hard rock that does very little to spark my interest in any way.
The entire work is lacking the energy that a similar band like Fear Factory takes to the extreme, and makes so outright entertaining. Songs simply go through typical verses and, admittedly, catchy chorus', with little purpose or motivation. The beginning of the album is uninteresting and put me off slightly. Things do pick up around the track "Breathe", which has an enjoyable little jam section towards the middle of the song, and "Hate", which shows a slightly more complex song structure and a chorus that actually catches my attention. Everything quickly fades into oblivion again towards then end of the album, however, as generic songs take precedence and start to wear on my nerves.
I can see a listener deriving enjoyment from Solution 13 if they're used to the trite music that you see on mainstream music television everyday. After after hearing countless metal bands doing far more dynamic and interesting things, however, everything falls a bit flat. The music is relatively well-played for what it is; yet it just doesn't manage anything left-field or powerful enough to catch my attention and make my ears prick with excitement. Sterile, straightforward stuff that doesn't raise the pulse like good music should.
