Hey guys, I'd really appreciate your help on this. I'll start by saying this isn't my mix or production, but is a first mix of my band's new EP, and I'm due to go back to the producer with my thoughts next week. I'm maybe being too hard on myself, I'm not too impressed with all our performances on the EP at all, but I really think it has the goods to atleast SOUND really, really good when we put our suggestions forward.

www.soundclick.com/sower - Sounds a bit different through the soundclick player... I think I really need to sort the EQ out on my iTunes...

My first thoughts on the mix is that it's slightly overpowering in the bass department, and the right hand side guitar is too bassy. There's also a bit of gating needed on the left side, aswell as everything not particularly sitting right.

Left hand guitar - Fernandes Ravelle Elite w/ SD JB, Boss SD-1, Peavey 6505, Blackstar Artisan 4x12, SM57.

Right hand guitar - LTD F-400 w/ EMG-81, Engl Invader 100, Blackstar Artisan 412, SM57.

Bass is a Ltd. edition Warwick, DI into an Amplitube Ampeg plug-in.

* After writing all that, I got a call from our bassist on behalf of our producer saying it's only a rough mix as far as he's concerned; I got misinformation from someone else in the band that this was practically the finished article. Apparent changes are the bass getting dropped down a bit, overdubs properly placed and panned, vocal levels evened out, amongst some other subtle stuff.

Have at it, anyway!

Any help on how to make the guitars sound a bit more 'in your face'? I know this is only a demo and isn't supposed to sound amazing, but I think the main thing with this recording is the drum sound to be honest, but it serves it's purpose well.

I think the guitars are quite muddy sounding, with a lack of real clarity, and they're woofing on certain palm mute passages. Would you suggest using hi/lo pass filters or shelves or something to help rememdy that and bring them more to life?

you guys could try high passing the guitars around 100hz. andy's c4 setting could probably help the chugging stuff too. also a boost around 2-6khz could help bring some clarity/definition to the guitar sound.
