some punk for you

I really don't like punk , but the production is great ¡¡
i'm going to record a punk band here, i think i will use your mix as reference
can you share details in the production???

wow, thanks, huge compliment!

guitars are Fender USA strat (maple neck) with EMG 85 in the bridge-->

Left:
808->recto preamp->vht2150 poweramp->marshall 1960 cab with standard 75's -->sm57-->SPL goldmike.

right:
808->Marshall JMP 2203->marshall 1960 cab with standard 75's -->sm57-->SPL goldmike.

the mic was about halfway between edge and center of the speaker.
no post eq ('cept HP and LP at 70 Hz and 12,5k).

Drums were some kind of yamaha (18" kick) mics were:

snare top: sm57
snare bottom: sm57
Hats: sm7
Kick: Audix d6
Toms: Audix d2
Overheads: Neumann km184
Ride: Beyer m160
Room: 1x Neumann TLM193, 1xAKG 414XLII

all into Ymaha DM2000 Console (crappy pres and converters)

Mix:
Kick: replaced with samples (of the kit) lots of Eq and compression

snare: sidechain-gated via trigger, sample augmented (like 20%)..some Eq (mainly boosts in 1,5k and the 4-7k area, some cuts at about 600-800hz). compression: 5:1 30ms attack, 5ms release about 8-10db reduction, roomverb with about 1,6s decay.

toms: edited by hand (edit/fade) boost at fundamental, cut between 200hz and 800 hz (depending on tom), boost at 3k-5k (again depending on tom). compression similar to snare, but only 3dB reduction, same reverb as snare.
alot of upward-compression on the toms (parallel compression...squashed to death and brought up slightly underneath the original toms).

Hats: Edited by hand, HP at 350Hz, wide boost at like 4k)

Ride: Edited by hand, hp at 350hz

Overheads: nothing but HP at 450Hz

I worked with LOTS of roomsound this time on the drums, I compressed the roommics HEAVILY and added them to the drumbus...this is a majority of the drumsound in this case.

some minor Eq (1dB wide boost at 100hz and 1,5 dB wide boost at anout 4k) and compression (3:1 35ms attack 3-4dB reduction) on the drumbus.

Bassguitar: cheapo Squier preci-copy-->DI
during Mix: cloned track, 1x SVX and 1xsimulanalog ts9 simmu to distort it, both blended together (mainly the clean track, distortion-track just slightly added). Heavy compression and limiting, little Eq (just a boost at the fundamental (narrow) and at like 2.5k (wide), minor cuts at first octave of fundamental (narrow) and somewhere at 300-400hz (wide). LOTS of compression and limiting (about 50ms attack and 70ms release).

Vox:sm7-->goldmike
doubletracked (2nd vox 10dB lower)

Mix: hardly any Eq (perhaps a tiny boost at5k or so), compression: 5:1 at:7-8ms rel: 50ms 8dB reduction. send to a little delay and a bit reverb (not much, just to fit it in the mix)

here's a Pic of the guitarrecordings:

My goal was to maintain a raw, dirty and natural sound whilst still sounding modern (for punk) so the band can keep up with these days pop-punk

hope that helps a bit
