It was a Tears For Fears song covered by another guy....the song was Mad World. The cover is better than the original.

I think Head Over Heels was on the album Songs From the Big Chair. I was about 4 or 5 when it came out.

further research shows that yes it was in the movie.

There were numerous songs that weren't on the official soundtrack, but were in the film.

gary jules was the one who covered "mad world" for donnie darko. i FINALLY watched that movie like the week before i left school, with a friend who absolutely loves it, and now i realize where all the quotes and references and crap i've been hearing from people forever came from.
