Songs currently kicking your ass.

So, I was listening to Crimson Glory's self-titled again. Honestly, I don't listen to it as much as other albums because eventually I end up running into this one. It's not because I think it's a bad track. It isn't. It's mostly due to the fact that it is one of the darkest, most harrowing and depressing songs in this entire genre. Really, it's this track that absolutely cemented the entire album as a fine work of art. You would have required balls of steel to bookend an album like this one with this song. Midnight's vocals are some of the best I've heard here. There are very few vocalists who are this refined in technique but can display this much raw emotion. His death makes it even harder to listen to because it only reinforces that he died far too soon. Very few like him come along. :(

Also, I don't really cry to songs like some other people I know but back in 2010, after his death...I just could not keep myself from doing so. It felt like a sledgehammer to the stomach every time I heard the first few notes play.

Here's a personal fave from 1937 taken from the classic Pioneers of the Jazz Guitar comp. It's admirable how skillful and talented those old-time guitarists were that they could create and record music that would still sound great nearly a century later.

John Cali and Tony Guttuso - "Hittin' on All Six"
