k going to lessons and have no idea what to bring, i was thing Starcrossed by Arcturus ir Moonlight Sonata 3.

Funny story about that. I went to my guitar instructor's one day. I had just gotten into Bela Fleck, and so I asked "Have you ever heard of Bela Fleck?" He was gracious though. All he said was "He's one of my favorite musicians." What I failed to realize until moments later was that I had been staring at Bela Fleck flyers on his office wall for the last 4 or 5 months.

The only thing that would have made that story better is if you had said "banjo instructor".

but an A for effort.

Dosn't the teacher...give you or teach you the things? I mean, if you were to bring things that will help YOU learn, why go to lessons? Why not stay at home? The teacher will give YOU what you need to learn, and will recommend things to you.

I dunno, never had a teacher before; yet.

think about that for a second...how am i supposed to learn things i don't know? if i where a guitarist i would just stay at home and learn everything off guitar pro and learn theory at school, but theres alot of guitar pro files that have no keyboard parts...and im not great with sheet music either.

My theory and slide guitar tutor has been telling me for the past couple weeks that he's nothing left to teach me. I know I should feel flattered, but it sucks, 'cos his sessions are something I always look forward to. Thus, I've just been bull-shitting him that there's more stuff he "needs" to go over, so that I "properly" assimilate it.

ShadowsWithin, I reckon you can learn things on your own. The aid of dvds, cds, books, magazine excerpts and whathaveyou always helps.

well im sure he can help you with that, but i'm not sure how your teacher works.

when i taught guitar i provided the materials, & helped out on what THEY wanted to learn. I guess it could work out both ways. good luck with the class.

There are always new things to learn. Do you mean you're on the same level as your teacher now? If you still want lessons just find someone who knows more.

Easier said than done where I'm from, mate. Basically, since day one we've had a mutual respect in the sense that I admire his seemingly endless knowledge and understanding of theory, comprehensive and helpful ways of explaining things, and just all-round spot on-ness as a person; and he's got some respect and admiration for my alleged open-mindedness and far superior technique(s) in some styles. I appreciate how immodest and conceited that sounds, but it's pretty much the case. Plus, it doesn't help that I like to help out a local who's trying to keep their own business running, if they deserve to. :p Since I hope to study music more at a higher level of education, I hope to learn an arseload more and advance more as a player.
