Hi, this right here- my first post to Ultimate Metal forums!
Anyways, I'd like to receive your suggestions of songs which infuse one who listens to them with motivation and grit. For the purpose of this thread, this does not have to come specifically from the lyrical theme/content (completely okay if it's present alongside the following), as I am primarily looking for songs whose melody, timbre and energy motivate me and drive me toward success! (I am trying to finish an academic paper I don't want to do, for context)
While you should feel free to post whatever comes to mind with just the aforementioned information, here are the main musical aspects that provide the motivating song its potency for perseverance, in my opinion:
Melody
Major intervals used in combination with minor intervals; specifically the major second, minor sixth, major sixth and major seventh intervals (they have been described as "Pleasurable longing, displeasure", "Anguish, sadness", "Winsomeness, pleasurable longing" and "Aspiration, displeasure, violent longing", respectively)
Strong melody-chord accord (the vocal/guitar melody fits really nicely with the chords, which are not relegated to the background but instead are forward and dynamic)
Solos with ascending, stepwise lines of diatonic scale notes
Memorable riff(s) that aren't too "chug"-y or sludgy; the key and timing of notes are such that it has character
Example: "Learning to Live" - Dream Theater
Harmony
Chord progressions with TENSION i.e. somewhat dissonant and resolving in nonstandard ways
Sections with quick harmony shifts toward the key signature tonic chord, creating urgency
"Epic" sounding yet subtle foundation/accompaniment to the guitar solo
Example: "Holy Diver" - Dio
Timbre & Feel
Sound color is deliberate evokes redemption (kinda hard to describe, but it's that distortion + clarity "spark" in the general vibe of the instrumentation)
Propulsive but not whiplash-inducing tempo
Generates emotion (uh, but not like nu metal lol)... most often in terms of vocal tone (yeah, you know, like those power metallers)
A viscerally heavy vocal/guitar/keyboard resonance reflecting human strengths and weaknesses. Makes you want to save the world, defeat cruelty etc.
Finally, Badass: titanic guitar lines you wish you could play in front of the thousands attending your arena/stadium show sort of idea
Examples: "Painkiller" - Judas Priest and "Tornado of Souls" - Megadeth
Really, I am not going to be too picky and just like the idea of mass adding anything mentioned to this themed playlist. Thank you in advance. if there are recommendations that have not only these purely audio elements, but also a set of lyrics that similarly speak to the "rise up from the ashes" quality of music, that would be particularly cool! "The Odyssey" by Symphony X, whose final section puts the biggest smile on my face and never fails to imbue me with confidence, exemplifies that one-two punch of motivation.
