Can anyone reccomend me some southern rock style bands similar to Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Marshall Tucker Band. Im also open to more southern tinged stoner metal influenced stuff like Spiritual Beggars and Alabama ThunderPussy.

The only Southern Rock album I have is The Allman Brothers Band's s/t and it is fucking good!

Their live stuff is great. Try the Fillmore East shows for the classic lineup. I've seen 'em live a bunch of times, and no two shows are ever the same. Great band.

I'm pretty sure I've at least heard some of Fillmore East and Eat a Peach, both of which I'm definitely going to pick up in the future. Duane was such an amazing player... what a shame he happened to have such a dangerous hobby.

So, wait, did you see them live back in the day? I'm so fucking jealous if that's the case.

Definitely pick up the Allman Bros. As mentioned, "Live at the Fillmore" and "Eat a Peach" and their latest "Hittin' the Note" are absolutely essential and mandatory for Southern Jazz/Blues/Rock. Also necessary; "Beginnings", "Idewild South" and "Shades of two Worlds." I saw these guys in 1970 with Duane and original bassist Berry Oakley. Weird and strange, Duane was killed on his bike in 1971. And a year later, a mile from where Duane died, Berry was killed on his bike. Since that first time I saw them, they have been my all-time favorite band. Every summer they come to Pittsburgh and it's a great fuckin' ritual to go as often as I can. Another excellent band is Govt.Mule. The guitarist Warren Haynes also plays guitar with the Allman Bros. Check out guitarist Derek Trucks(plays with the Allmans) and has his own band. His approach is coming from the Jazz side. Beautiful slide player, like Duane re-incarnated.

Nah, I wasn't even born until about three years after his death.

Great version of Whipping Post on the Fillmore disc, but you have to kind of look past some out-of-tune bits. It always makes me wince a bit when the guitar comes in... And there's a great version of In Memory of Elizabeth Reed on there, too. I even like my southern rock epic...

I will definitely check all that out, guys! Thanks for the recos.
I was just reading about the similarities between Duane and Berry's deaths yesterday on Wikipedia... creepy :erk:
