Southern storms

As I understand it, the southern US has really been pummeled.

We've gotten a few tornadoes here in IL (one not far from where my parents live) but nothing like I hear the South has been getting. Glenn, Jen, Rev Su, and everyone else living down south, please stay safe!

I hope that all of my fellow Southerners escaped from yesterday's storms unscathed. The tornado that tracked across the entire state missed us by several miles.

Glenn and I are okay, thank goodness. It was a scary night indeed. The tornadoes missed us by about 5-10 miles.
We spent hours hunkered down in our closet with the pets and had 2 inch hail.

Some of you may have seen Glenn's tweet last night.. "Tornado headed for home and what do I do? Grab those fucking approved visas I still have to mail."

Ha! Now that's dedication!

Good here, seems the stuff that caused tornadoes or wind shear in Spaulding county weakened right before it got to me.

Didn't get touched one bit. Barely even rained.

My boss was incredibly lucky....she lives on a big farm, and her neighbor 200 yds from her got leveled. The person is ok but everything is gone. The tornado went RIGHT by her place but fortunately didn't touch it. She said that she can see damage everywhere she looks when she steps out on her driveway. It's crazy.

Parts of Tuscaloosa were flattened. The last I heard, the death toll was at 15 and climbing. At one point here in Birmingham, we had 5 tornadoes on the ground at the same time. Other than some minor wind damage, and a 4 hour power outage, Mrs. Bama and I had no problems since the tornadoes veered slightly north of us. We're still waiting on pins and needles to hear from everyone we know.

From what I heard on the news (half paying attention while making dinner) we were on watch for a moment (Greensboro/High Point)but something went down in near by cities (raleigh, durham?)

I'm fine. We didn't get it too bad by me, that I could tell, though it apparently hit hard west of here in Coweta county. Though for all I know its bad around here too, I just haven't been out.

Bits of debris fell from the sky here when the storm cell that ripped through Tuscaloosa and Birmingham came by. There are still little bits of plywood and shingles in our yard that came from who knows where. Thankfully, there was no damage in the immediate area, just another long power outage. We were lucky. Some of the pictures that are coming in from all over the state are just awful.

The death toll continues to rise, with c. 200 dead in Alabama, and 14 in Georgia. :(

I got some wind, rain and thunder here and a lot of power flickers and brownouts, but luckily by the time the squall line got this far east of the Atlanta metro (1am or so), it had lost much of its daytime-heating strength.

Rec'd this morning, I'm guessing he must have spent a day or two in the hospital...

Not ok but alive. Was @ work when it hit. Got under desk. Terror. Roof went. Walls fell. Trapped under rubble for 1/2 hour. More terror. Samaratins made hole & I crawled out of roof & walked away with scratches. Looks like atom bomb hit. Miles of destruction. Friends & customers dead. Car gone. Store gone. Don't know what I'm going to do. No job, no income, very little hope. Just got home. House ok. Family ok. Now trying to check on friends. Wish me luck.

I'm sorry about your friend's situation. It's an all too familiar story right now.
