Wazzzabiii!! (ok I'm cool now onto the question,
Got myself the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier head and now need a cabinet. Instead of getting a Mesa cab with V30's I'm looking to Harry Kolbe (amp guru in NY) to provide me with a 1x12 cab that he makes. Why? well cuz I'm kinda trying to duplicate the gear that my influencial guitar GOD Buckethead uses. He uses a 4x12 Harry Kolbe cabinet that costs around $2000 but its mainly geared for playing on stage. Harry told me that four of his 1x12's produce the same sound as his 4x12 and that his 1x12 will be fine for my house jamming. He spoke of how most amp builders are not necessarily skilled in developing a speaker that's voiced to put out all the frequencies of a guitar and how that affects the clarity. I'll know more this coming week. If someone with speaker know-how could comment on this further that would be cool. Thanks,

That's OK. Most amp builders don't use their own speakers.

I wouldn't say I have "speaker know-how" (I know what I've tried and I know what I like) but I'd suggest taking your amp head and try out several different cabs with different speakers. Why not?

$2000 sounds insane to me for a cab.

More expensive does not mean better (especially in the world of subjective tastes and opinions). Maybe if you do some searching you can find some Buckethead enthusiasts who have emulated his sound with different gear.

Of course, if you just want the same gear as someone else then there is only one thing you can do...

That 1x12 sounds too weak for me. I run a VHT Pitbull through a 4x12 oversized Mesa Recto and a Bogner Uberkab. The uberkab is probably the best, and most sonically accurate cabinet for what I do. You can usually pick them up for around $1100 (shipping included) or cheaper on eGay if you're lucky!
