What about charging tax.
GST on everything, PST on master disks or other physical product?
No GST if you're making under 20 grand.... no PST if you're not selling an end product....
...meaning, if the band will be selling discs, THEY have to charge PST.... I had this issue come up a while ago, some cocksucker called the provincial tax office on me & said I was selling T-shirts & CD's and not collecting tax. Goddamn tax officer comes to the studio banging on the door. Explained to him that I ONLY SELL TIME and not a physical product, and therefore cannot charge tax on it. (Ontario tax office told me this years ago.) So as long as you pay for a CD you give the band (I buy spindles of 100, and give the discs to the bands free of charge... the band is paying for studio time... that's all!) , or they bring their own blanks, you don't have to charge PST.... just don't re-sell anything & you're good to go.
